Project BULLETPROOF...dream or reality?
Alright, no answers yet , but check out the link below; look at there pic and compare to mine. What do you guys think?. I'm thinking Neals right - Mine didn't get welded factory, but does this one look welded to you -

Compared to mine ? It looks like it might be, or maybe just heated ? You guys tell me.

Sorry Jackal - Hows she running

HI!... From your pic it seems like it never got welded.Just press fit or something along those lines. The one on the MAGNAFLOW site, you can clearly see the heat discolouration from the welding process. On yours there is no discolouration. Can you get a better pic of yours?
I can look , but neither side was welded. I wish I could see the actual bead on that one @ there site. I see the heat marks.
The sleeve seemed tight,I couldn't pull it out or move it. It just leaked around the whole damn seam. I'll look for another pic.
You can see my CAT's in the background were welded - I bet it was forgotten, never thought of it that way.

No prob. jbrew...I'm positive that you didn't get welded at the factory. I'm jealous...I want the short 4" dia. Maggie Race muffler, but they list at like $185!!!
The truck is running great cept for my little SES light.
That will be tuned out today and I'll have some numbers for ya'll. Was getting on the on ramp this AM and I could really feel a difference...pulls harder at much lower RPM's. Also, I can't make her go under 80...just resting on the go pedal and she's accelerating...hahaha. I also have a TON of pics, so I will get some of the cooler ones uploaded tonight as well.

You did allot of searching , reading and get others take on things before you started.
Taking advantage of the net and these forums is an asset for anyone wanting to attempt such tasks on there own. Information is priceless and knowledge is of course, power.
As far as my muffler - Actually, just one converter was more than muffler cost. The muffler was between 60-70 dollars. It's a 20" - everything is welded up now and has been for awhile - It's way to loud for my taste. The mufflers Neal posted looks like more of what I was after back then . I want to keep my factory tune , but with LT's and HF Cats , I think I could get more torque out of it if I went with a good offset muffler - Like the Borla. I guess I'll stop bashing Magnaflow for the problem I had, I agree it had to of somehow been forgotten about at the factory. That could happen anywhere and excusable IMO.
Good Luck with your tune Jackal!
BTW - I fixed the link above to direct you to the race series weld, I thought I posted this one - http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/02race.asp

Well, I was scheduled for 12:00 so I got there at 11:30. They got started right away. He took it out on the road 4 separate times, then started the dyno runs. He was having a hell of a time getting it to go open loop before 5,000, so he emailed the file to SCT. They finally got back to him, so after 6 1/2 hours and 10 runs, he got it dialed in. I am somewhat disappointed with the results, but it's never enough. I believe he ran it in 3rd. gear and was spinning it to 5,800. Not a prob. since I have the 5-speed, but I've since changed to a tow-safe tune and limited it to 5,600. It doesn't feel as powerful to me as Troyer's tow-safe tune with the SES light, but maybe it had something to do with that. Not sure. It doesn't seem to pull as hard from a dead stop so I have to work the clutch a little more. Maybe it will straighten up after some more drive time.

Here's a shot of the eyelet that caught the edge of head on the driver side:

New fan brackets and "cleaned up" radiator shroud:

Notice anything missing?

There should be more power to be had some where. I made 200 hp and 283 ft-lbs with my 4.6 NPi heads. I had electric fans and the ported JBA shorty headers. I was using a Troyer off the shelf tune and open loop delay was about 12 seconds. I would suspect that he ran in 3rd because of the speed rating of the tires. Max speed in 3rd at 5800 rpm is 100 mph +-10.

Well, Phase 2 may be coming sooner than expected. My rear pinion seal didn't like the 100+ mph dyno runs / test drives this past week and decided to $#!^ the bed. I'm thinking about going ahead and doing 4.10's in the rear and getting the front end done late this fall. What do you guys think? Should I go Ford Racing or Yukon? If I can't spring for the Eaton True Trak right now, should I just leave it open till I can?

Found Ford Racing 4.10's for $150, but don't know if I need a "B" or "C" master install kit. The "C" includes axle shaft bearings & seals.

I know how you all feel about clutch based limited slips, but would the Ford Racing Traction Lok be better than an open diff? They're only $230-$250 and use carbon fiber clutch plates and come factory in the Cobras.

...must....have..........more horsepower.
