I'm thinking you have a intake valve follower off on the dead cyl. Remove the cam cover and check. If a follower is off about 75 percent of the time the valve stem will be bent. Follower can come off from a bad lash adjuster (soft) and then bend the valve stem as the cam smacks the follower against the valve on the way off. Just a guess but i'm betting thats what your problem is. Good luck.

yeah im thinkin bout takin off the valve cover here soon but i looked down the oil pour tube and the cam looks fine its spinnin around fine and everything. and if that was the prob would it be a loud knocking?? its like my truck is moody it misfires when it wants to it can idle for 5 mins with no misfire then it will miss once.....then miss 4 more times and repeat the pattern. 10 secs no misfire then one...then 4 more and repeat. but ive replaced my Coil packs-spark plug-wire so its not spark. it idles fine in park. i can rev it up and it has all 8 cyl's but the second i put it in drive it misses alot! thanks for all ur advice n help guys.

If you’re correct that there is only one cylinder mis-firing, that should be taken into consideration when analyzing the problem.

I wonder if this might have something to do with it?

but if a valve stem is bent as mentioned above it would make a considerable noise i think.

lol thats my sig right now! my 2wd drive has seen more mud than it was ever intended for. and that was like 8 months ago so after i blew out the spark plugs it ran fine. then b4 i replaced the plugs i power washed it then blew out the wires again. this engine has been threw hell and a 1/2. did you know u can run a V-8 4.6L on 5 cyl's?? well ya can and i found out that the hard way i drove 4 miles on 5 cyls's hehe. now its all snowy and clean!!! ill get a vid of me driving my 7 cyls from the outside u guys are gonna love it. i get a vid of under the hood so u can hear the misfire too. i can hear it out the CAI if i put my ear close to the filter it goes POP everytime it misses and then when it back fires i can feel something hit the back of the throttle plate! haha my truck wants to die SOO bad lol.

That will drive the ignition nuts - I had my plugged flipped around at one time to make more room to get back to 3 & 4 and another guy along with a few others had there harness right against. The trucks missed. Some at idle , others while driving.

PKRWD - A member here posted some sort of memo or TSB from Ford about cause and effect - harness routing..

I'll look for the thread . If you've been around for awhile , you know PKRWD is definitely worth listening too .. Anyway , solved a problem I had and a few others as well - That will make it run like sh^t if your to close .

Theres a good explanation of it in here somewhere, I'll look for it in a little bit..
