Also i dont know if this is a good test or not but i took off my Air filter while it and coverd half of my intake tube and the idle didnt chage i coverd almost all of the intake tube and it didnt make a diff. in idle. bad MAF? if this was a valve prob wouldnt it always be there no matter what i chaged? and would the CEL be on for the valve reading as a Misfire? Sorry for all the question i just dont know whats going on!
the fact that the idle did not change may also suggest a vacuum leak. the best way to diagnose a vacuum leak is to use an unlit propane torch and let the propane get sucked into the intake system. if the idle improves and the miss goes away and all other systems are functioning properly you may have a vacuum leak. vacuum leaks are much harder to diagnose than in the old days. the computer tries to compensate for a lean condition. if you decide that you have a vaccum leak you can usually pinpoint it with the propane unlit torch. Just open the torch slightly so as not to flood the engine compartment witj fumes and create a combustible condition.
I have a car that went back to the dealer 15 times for rough idle after the dealer blew up and replaced my engine. dealer never could find the problem. I found it in 2 minutes with the propane torch. the intake manifold gasket was misalaigned during the rebuild. Everybody makes mistakes but this dealership is so grossly incompetent I have no hesitation putting the name in this email. Earnhardt Dodge - Gilbert, AZ
