just cleaned MAF sensor...

just cleaned mass air flow sensor for first time in 85K miles

the tutorial on this board made it easy... Thanks!!!

the MAF sensor on a 1999 F150 looked a little different then the picture in the tech article... there was a long plastic sleeve covering the MAF which I didn't remove... just sprayed up in the little SOB real good

noticed there's another sensor a little farther up moving towards the engine... what is this one and does it ever need cleaning

Good job.

That other thang be the IAT ( intake air temp) sensor - you can clean it if you wish; I would not use MAF cleaner on it, just a gentle bit of canned compressed air.

BTW - what all else ya done / plan to do at this mileage?

This guy just did - https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=308294

I've seen quite a few on this site notice a significant difference in performance. When the MAF's dirty the PCM doesn't cipher right. Anything in the "Air Metering" department that is less whole can effect the way she runs.

Personally I never witnessed the effect myself , I don't think that I have gave it enough time to get dirty before cleaning. - Kind of a fanatic about keeping things at there best

I notice a big gainer when I changed out my COP's tho - like night and day Mann, my truck runs good ( :

Can you effectively clean the MAF without removing it from the intake tube - i.e. just spray the hell out of what you can see after opening the air cleaner?

I don't see why not. I take everything apart myself .. I really don't like the idea of doing it that way with all the plastic around. BUT , you could prolly get away with it..

Well, I believe MAF cleaner is essentially no-residue electrical contact cleaner, which SHOULD be plastic-safe.

Well, 'Senior Member', you should try searching for this stuff - you know it's often discussed.

In fact, I think you need to demonstrate you can, to preserve your 'Senior' status

Here ya go - don't let it happen again ....

It's in this thread - I ain't gonna spoonfeed ya lol

BTW - 'please' and 'thank-you' are in the english vernacular - just an fyi next time you ask for help.

I just bought a can of CRC MAF cleaner over at O'Reilly's - it says right on it that it's plastic safe.

Hi Guys,
i am fairly new on the forums,i must admit i read alot more than i write.
anyhoo iam fairly **** about keeping my engine bay clean, but this weekend i followed the instructions on cleaning the maf sensor along with the rest of the air intake system.
i was amazed at the difference this one little sensor could make to the performance of my truck.
in my opinion even if you think your truck runs great you still need to attempt this.

That cool , you can prolly hit the IAT with a shot as well

AND - the IAC toooooo - Shoot just spray into the intake at about 3000 Rpms and get all three sensors at the same time

Yea , I wish I t worked that way .. Good Stuff!!

Hmm, I wonder if that's a 4-10 HP gainer per sensor cleaned - Yuh Think!!
