Temp gauge
Yes i do, my block heater goes in right above the oil pan, is this the hole i need to use? Therefore i have to remove my block heater?? Thats what im confused on, is that the hole or is there another one? Ive never used the block heater...no real need on a gas engine for one.
OK guys sorry for being such an **** about this but I do believe I understand the difference now...just had to have a camera angle to see the little bugger i think. You can see my front driveshaft, drive side exhaust manifold, the heater installed in a freeze plug i believe correct? And then all the way to the left there is an allen wrench plug with some locktite on it, I am assuming that is going to be where the temp gauge sensor will be installed to.

Thank you so much built, for all you patience and help. A side note, should i use teflon or compound to seal it up? And, how much and at what force is coolant going to greet me when i pull that allen plug?

glad you found it now, a picture is worth more than all words
make sure the engine is cold and coolant presure relieved at radiator
teflon tape is good.

Hey guys I couldn't install the probe in the block plug because it is IMPOSSIBLE to access! The engine mount is in the way and you can barely fit 2 of your fingers up there! Anyways, I went ahead and installed it on the heater core line coming from the water pump under the manifold up way back (that is supply line right) And the only trouble I am having is grounding my gauge, it works if we hook it up to a battery and group against the gauge housing but the grounding stud on the gauge doesn't ground out! Any idears?

What did you use to tap into the heater hose? When I did mine, I used a brass 3/4" "T" and various hose fittings to tap into mine. I put the sensor in the "T" and ran a short ground wire attached to the "T" then to a bolt on the intake manifold. This will get you the engines hottest water temp because it's the temp as the water is leaving the engine, but before it enters the heater core.... IMO, putting the sensor on the drivers side block drain plug hole will be the coolest water temp??
Anyway, I also have a tranny temp gauge, and I "T" it just before it goes into the upper rad line. I also had to ground it, because I tapped into the rubber hose part of the line, under the rad.
PS, that's a pretty clean under the block pic you got there!! Someone has pulled that block drain plug in the past! And, you still have the lower exhaust manifold stud on the # 8 cylinder!! I've lost both of those studs on # 4 AND # 8... That's my next project.... Replacing ALL the exhaust manifold studs on my beast.... $210 in parts alone!!

Hi Mitch, yes I used a T to tap into the heater core feed.
And i also had my exhaust manfiolds replaced this summer
for $220
UPDATE: I got the gaue to light up and work but it maxes out!! I grounded the tee and used the "-" terminal on the gauge and grounded that too.
What else is wrong????
