I think I can answer that one... If one goes, it's likely that others won't be far behind. They've all been exposed to the same conditions. Kind of like when one headlight bulb blows, the other often does shortlt after.

Unfortunately I believe hammer has a bad coil or somethings not right with the install - .

Like I said it hasn't happened that much in the past with Globals COP's and when it has - The Cop was DOA - Meaning Primary Failure - with Primary failure , you get a light right away - it's dead.

Honestly , I would go over the install - It's most likely a boot not mounted right - spring may have slid down - bad plug or one got wet - maybe a coolant line leak above #4 - Idunno... It sucks !!

I can't condemn Global - They've come thru for many in the past.. This is the first time in last 1 1/2 years that a new coil from them has come with a low grade misfire.

Something could have been missed in the install - I didn't Install so I don't know - there's to many variables.

Anyway - Pushing the motor during the miss makes it more pronounced . You increase the chances the misfire monitor will pick it up. Soon as it does you'll get a blinking light - it will blink a few times and go away- code is stored.

Yea , changing them all at once is best - just like Andy said.. Also , keeping the integrity of these ignition systems plays a big part in performance and economy. When the PCM shoots a low voltage signal new coil - you want the coil next to that one converting to pulse and lighting up the cylinder just as fast ..

Best COPs and plugs for 2004 5.4L 2V Triton?

I followed jbrew's link but eBay said it expired. I've seen "Global" recommended a few times for COPs so I searched eBay but came up empty.

I've seen more than a couple of COP sources and plug manufacturers mentioned by different posters so forum research is producing confusion instead of clarity.

What say ye' wise men? Is there a consensus on the best value in COP/plug combination? What is the current "best advice" on purchasing COPs and plugs for a 2004 Expedition XLT with 5.4L 2V Triton ("L" engine code)?

thanks in advance!

I couldnt find the global coils either dont know whats up with that. Uneek supply is still found and many on the board have had good results with those. There are actually several sellers I would just pick one with a high number of sales and few negative feedback reports. Go to e-bay and search dg508.. Get the 10 pack the set for v10's so you have a couple spares..

Found DG508s from GLOBAL and UNEEK.

Also found them from evalero1 and ashland_auto_sales.

Ashland_auto_sales was the only one I found that sold 10-packs.

On to spark plugs-
Using info from fordparts.com, I believe SP-479 is the right OEM plug for me.

Does anyone feel strongly about OEM vs aftermarket plugs?

Also, I noted a HUGE difference in appearance between the factory plugs pictured here in the forum and the SP-479. Did my research lead me astray?

Finally... I want to thank you guys for the wealth of info here. After all my reading, I feel like I've already done it once. I certainly feel like I'm prepared for just about anything I encounter on this project

all help much appreciated - thanks in advance!

You sure you aren't looking at pics of the 3v plugs?
