Lightning guys that have the same setup as my new engine are putting down 525-550hp at the wheels, I dont really see a 4.6 standing up to that, but then again, who knows.... there might be 1

I am in no way a GM fan, but give credit where credit is due - the '02 - '05 Z06 makes the same HP at the wheels as a stock Lightning.

The new Z06 is larger in displacement, but it still puts down significant power. I say kudos to GM for driving pushrod technology forward...

lol it was a joke to use the SUHC phrase i have alot of respect for the new LSx motors. they make some good power out of them. only weak point is the thin walled blocks split!

the new 5.0 cammer which is a bored 4.6 that is in the new GTR is rated at 410HP. thats 82hp per liter the 505 HP LS7 has 72hp per liter. but the 5.0 cammer is 1K bucks more or u could get the 5.0L with the FR500 heads cam setup that makes 450HP. which costs the same as the LS7 motor. so i give credit where its due! modular>ls7

Yeah thanks, same to you. I have had great luck with engine building in the past. This is my first modualr build, but I did everything to 100% specs, that is mostly why it took a year and 3 months to complete. I painted my dash because thats how I wanted it, and I like it. I really dont know any purpose that is serves.....

Can you imagine where ford engines would be power wise if they had stayed with pushrods? Ford couldn't. the blocks would have needed major redesigning to eliminate NVH characteristics. that was the main goal of chevy in the ls program. power just became a secondary thing, but they still realized people want horsepower.(look at Hyundai with there new v8 4.5l rear drive car line)Yes for could have fixed the block for better sealing, longer service life, etc. but the believed the future was going to be in the modular line of engine families and that is what they have stuck with. the supposed new larger bore spacing engines are being tested. can wait to see one torn down. as far as hp per liter, ford wins. but the larger displacment chevys have more power area under the curve. makes for two different feelings while driving.

Wrong -

5.3L GM - 315 HP.

5.4L Ford - 300 HP.

4.8L GM - 295 HP.

4.6L Ford - 248 HP.

These are the standard truck engines listed by each manufacturer.

Like I said earlier, I am not a GM fan - but I give credit where credit is due...

Hey Einstien, what vehicle can you buy from Ford has the 5.0L cammer in it. A 120,000 stripped out Mustang, compare it to a 60-80grand ( don't know exact price ) Z06 and there is no comparison.

What button do you press on the Ford site to look at the Mustang GTR?
