engine builders around here warranty their workmanship. if they mess up and it can be proven, its warrantied.
when you build an engine like neal has. the parts are the major expense. correct?
on a race built engine were the customer buys most of the parts, no way is the builder going to cover the parts, which in most cases, get screwed up
so if the builder screws up and cost me $1k in parts every time, after i spend the time to pull the engine back out, at some point it makes more sense to say screw the warranty and take it somewhere else. So if you want to call that a warranty go ahead but all it cost the buidler is time.

[QUOTE][Anyway, there apparantly is no warrenty due to it's a purpose built race engine. The engine builder will help me out on on the labour but I will still have to buy all the parts. I'm going to order all new gaskets, seals on monday and the new COMETIC head gaskets have already been ordered./QUOTE]
[QUOTE=BROTHERDAVE]let me put it this way. i think neal will agree with this.

HI!... Actually he covered all the labour and a few of the parts. I had to replace the 3 pistons that got destroyed.
When it spun the bearings, he supplied everything but some gaskets.

When a compression ring breaks it looses it's spring tension to expand. 90% of the time it will just sit loosely in the ring grooves in the piston. FYI. Seen it many times on buddies CHEV 350's and SBF's.

Broken Crank
I had a 2.8 liter rebuilt in my blazer back in highschool. It was a waste of time and money. I should have dropped a 350 in there and been doone with it as the 2.8 was incredibly underpowered for the vehicle. That being sadi, 30 days after the rebuild, the crank borke. I stopped at a gas station to fill up and on the way home the crank snapped. WATCO here in houston did the rebuild. They charged me $150 for a new crank and reinstalled it free of charge.
Any reputable builder should honor their work for a period of time. Neal has a valid point. Its easy to fight online about it, just remember everyones perception is a bit different.
On another note I had a vlokswagon jetta that went into the shop a few months after I bought it. She was used but really pretty and a one owner non smoker. A+ TRANSMISSION screwed me hard core as did the little delership I bought her from. I was with out the car for 60 days. I was younger and in a not so good financial position. All I had was my time so I tried to wait them out. When i got the car back it was filthy and the transmission didn't make it home. I took it to DEMONTROND NW here in houston and they replaced the tranny. Come to find out VW didnt do rebuilds on the 94 to 99 modles. Just replaced them. Took 7 days and inever had a problem again. It does pay to take it to the dealer sometimes if they are reputable and affordable. Additionally the guy who sold me the car lost his super fine wife and kids, and then died of a heart attack at 48 a year later. It seems in the past few years that dealer rates have sky rocketed! I am fortunate to have a good mechaninc that cuts me a cash deal. $50 an hour.
Despite the tit for tat crap I do like this forum and since joining I have received tons of valuable knowledge. I have 158k on my 2000 4.6L and she runs as good as the day I bought her. Best vehicle I have ever owned hands down.

from the watco website:
4th and 5th sentence.
i am not arguing, i am simply stating that if you chose to a have an engine built with high performance parts, dont assume there is a warranty.
Warranty does not include towing, down time, car rental, lodging, etc. Odometer must be working properly within 30 days of purchase date, for warranty to be valid. All warranty work must be performed at Watco Engine Center. No parts warranted unless sold by Watco. Warranty does not apply to any engine damage as a result of overheating, lack of lubrication, pre-ignition, detonation, racing or any type of abuse.

You are a freakin' joke and obviously do not know a damn thing about engine internals and/or failure analysis. The rings do not seize in the bore and neither does the piston if it is soley a ring failure. They break, have no tension and are just along for the ride in the ring land. A piston does not seize in the bore from a broken ring. If a scored / seized piston (overheat, overfuel) has a broken ring, the ring was broken after the fact, not vice versa.
For your info, the last 6 overhauls I did this year so far had broken rings due to dirt ingestion and/or excessive carbon, 1 were the wrong rings from the factory, and 1 was water ingestion in a non running engine that was sitting for awhile, and guess what numb n**s, neither were seized in the bore. Just because you can use Google, read Wikepedia and read all your Ford engine mags does not give you any, and I mean ANY credibility, real world experience, or certifications. ANYONE can QUOTE crank bolt numbers, crank hp numbers, engine hp #'s, dish size, cam lift, etc. like you do. Then you try and say something on your own and its so God awful ridiculous. Neal is right, WEED WACKER engines dont count, but I am sure you can quote the bore and stroke and how much hp the crank is good for on my Ryobi weedwacker. So in closing, STF UP, you and Patman take your juice boxes and sippy cups, and go stay in the CARE AND INTERIOR DETAILING FORUM, and quit trying to give ANY advice in the ENGINE section.

Thanks anyway. I was just sharing my experience with WATCO. They treated me well and fixed the problem . I did not mind paying $150 for the new crank shaft. They showed me the old part and had the vehicle fixed in three days. They do a tremendous amount of business and I was pleased with the service. I didn't mind paying for the crank shaft either. They ground the crank shaft in the rebuild. It was a factory defect. Not their responsibility. They took the time to open it up and replace it. I believe in paying for someones time. I never had a problem with the motor again and I drove it for 50k before I sold it.NOW if they **** up then it would be a different story and a whole different side of my charming personality. You can bet your pay check on that.

the engines u compared them to have very loose tolerances modulars are much tigheter designed motors.

funny when u say that to an actual mechanic when u arent. yo do heavy machinery construction work...
