I think the trickiest part would be the timing chains/ front cover area and the heads. There is specific places RTV has to be and that kinda stuff, go from there.

yah marking the timing chains and marking the cam gears and the crank with a white out pen helps with reseting the timing. and u need to put RTV wherever there is a seam on the front timing cover when reinstalling it.

Very correct, it's cheap enough so be liberal with that RTV. This thread has got me wondering what I'd do if I cooked the engine? It would be blown, but for sure not a stock rebuild. Hmmmm, my brother has got me thinking stand alone engine management too, ebay has laptops for this you can get second hand for real cheap.

meh u dont need all that unless ur gonna be in the movie fast and the furious.:-p. u can do a cheap rebuild theres stroker kits forged with i beam rods good for about 750hp. u can get for about 1300 bucks bearings and rings. im gettin my forged crank next week im gettin it for 250. its out of a 03 cobra only 13K miles. im pondering if i should get it shot peened because ive heard it gives its an extra 300hp life but i wouldnt put money on it. but the stock cranks are normally good for 1200hp.

I wouldn't worry about the shot peening. When is the last time you ever heard of a crank breaking?? The motor will only be as strong as its weakest link, provided there is no detonation the weakest link on any motor is the connecting rods, which will window a block way before the crank ever fails.

If I were building a 1500+hp drag car then I would think about it, for a street/strip car you would be better served getting the journals polished and having the crank knife edged and re-balanced using heavy metal inserts. If anything you could always look into heat treating it but that would even be overkill in a motor only putting out a max of 650-700hp.

HI!... But anyone can build a 5H.P BRIGGS & STRATTON engine............Try building a REAL engine fool.

And as I have explained to YOU about 100 times already but you can't seem to get into your hollow frickin head is, I didn't build the bottom end of my last engine!!!!!!!!! How many times do I have to keep telling you that and proving you WRONG again, and again, and again..................

The engine builder I used at the time is currently being sued by 4 people who had the same problems.

Why don't you do us all a favour and JUST GO AWAY.............................................. .

I know what you mean about those tunerzzzz kids, it's pretty trick though and all but unheard of around here. It does require alot of patience and trial. I think I'll go see the fellas at Paul's High Performance when that time comes. Right now it gets the groceries for my 64 Galaxie with 650 hp's!

Oh, Neal, without mentioning names, who did build the short block, maybe tell by location? I have used a little place in Essex for machining with a great rep. There are plenty states side too, too bad Windsor is limited to what it has, beit for machining and especially parts at even reasonable prices!

HI!... Again your a tool. Brought back to same engine builder because it was under warrenty!!!!!!

I think if you were to be a tool, you'd be a metric adjustable wrench or possibly a left handed screw driver............... but then again those tools would have a purpose..........

HI!... I have no problems mentioning their shop name. It was SEIFKERS in ESSEX. Worst engine builder around. Andy Seifker is a f#$@@#$

Neal - a little off subject , but didn't you try Granitelli COP's at one time and they caused your truck to shut down ?

Then you had to install a resister or something ?

HI!... Yes the GRAN COPS caused a electrical surge that caused my PCM to shut down. Only did it at a complete stop. Talked to MIKE T about it and was instructed to buy a MSD cap. Never got a chance to try it out though. The PCM has now been moved into the truck (glove box) and has been somewhat sheilded against EMI. I'll know if it works when the truck goes back on the road again.

Crazy eh, they only machined my 460 and sold me all the stroker kit, it was assembled in Chatham by Barrie Poole. He's the only one I trust this side of the border, Chris Holbrook or Livernois, as well as Paul's HP on that side. I actually saved money having it built for me, but next engine I'll build, the FE that came out of my Galaxie as the truck is still smooth sailin'.

Wouldn't be much of a builder if he didn't warrenty HIS own work for a certain amount of time - Race or non-race. How would you get any buisness.
