Mobil 1 Test

I got this e-mail today from Mobil 1. I found it interesting because it ilustrates the point we often try to make about syth oils. So, here you go.....

"We are excited to announce new product performance testing for Mobil 1 Extended Performance. Visit www.mobiloil.com to view the results of the tests conducted in Las Vegas, Nevada, where the dusty environment encompasses temperatures that range from scorching hot to frigid cold.

To put Mobil 1 Extended Performance to the test, we selected two taxi companies- Lucky and Yellow Cab- and ran Mobil 1 Extended Performance against conventional motor oil in their cabs. Why? Because taxis experience extremely harsh service conditions: a lot of stop and go driving, excessive idling and long hours of operation (often 23x7).

After 105,000 miles of severe taxi service with oil change intervals every 15,000 miles, the Chrysler 2.7 V-6 engine (left) that used Mobil 1 Extended Performance motor oil showed only light oil film and very light varnish compared to the Chrysler 2.7 v-6 engine that ran on a leading conventional oil (right) and developed heavy sludge and varnish deposits . "

For the 'extended' Mobil 1 oils on the shelf now, I need to hear ....why....
there is an exclusion on the back label on using these oils for towing, heavey applications etc and to refer to the mfger reccomended change intervals?

On this basis it suggests to me that those oils are fine for a car but not in a truck.

Thats the extended oils, (3) offerings, not the regular Mobil 1.

Atcually taxeis have it easy on the engine its the tranny that's tough. This about it. No start/stop for the engine. It runs all day with lube.... Now try a car with several short trips and cold starts and see what you find/.....

Also, taxis don't tow like mentioned above. The test is worthless.

Someone chime in hear. Mobil one no longer produces are real synthetic oil do they? Everyone of their data sheets have a line for ash content. I may be mistaken, but there should be any ash in oil that was syntheticaly created. Unless of course it is a blend of synthetic and natural petroleum. I think this goes to the fact that the definition of synthetic oil was loosened.

Quite the contrary...it's a very effective test result, for sales to the average Joe who'll put 100k miles on his car. These sales gimmics (not that Mobil 1 is a gimic) work like a charm. even Mobil 1 with such a great following has to worry about sales and advertisements.

Did they change the Dino at 15,000 too? That's not a fair test for obvious reasons (oil price / per mile).
