All races were from punches where 1st gear could still be used. But if you sooooo confident there is no way i can keep up with your 5.4 come pay me a visit Ill straighten your thoughts out on the 4.6

I'll meet yuh half way, if you think it will make it - bet I get there first - Bring your title and an open mind, I should be able to get something for it - even tho it has a 4six.

PSS mag and I met for lunch a few weeks ago. He and I have identical trucks (ext cab, short bed, 3.55s), except for he's got a 5.4, and I'm 4.6. Also, he's got 235/60?/16 tires whereas I've got 265/75/16. I'm modded, he's stock. I had my a/c on, he had his windows down. Pulling out of the parking lot, I was first, driving normal. He guns it, I wait til I see him, and gun it too. Was starting to gain on him when the light turned red and he turned.

Unless you drove the same truck with both engines you are all talking out your *****. As far a reliability they both rate the same. As for power, stock to stock or mod for mod the 5.4 wins hands down. Been there, done that, bought t-shirt.

cuz im f-in grumpy! my 4.6 is a lame duck, i gotta get her wound up above 2500 to make ANY power and get going. thats with 4.88 gears on 35"s too. hell it wont even light them up. plus i'm getting a lil tick on the passenger side bank. its just bugging me.

so i just bought a 5.4 for $350 + $350sh on ebay. 2002 5.4 out of a f250, said it had a tick and the guy had no clue what it was *snickers* i dont care! im rebuilding it, slapping a crane cam in it with some beehive springs. and maybe ill tweek the heads some. if i can do that i'll go with 12.1 comp pistons.

so in a nutshell, i dont like my 4.6 all that much. i do love it in my moms mustang.

Iv'e owned two 4.6s, one in a 99 F-150, adequate power and a consistant 17 MPG on the hiway. The other was in a 95 Couger XR7, would break traction shifting into second every time, very snappy motor in that application and averaged 25 MPG on the hiway at 70 MPH. Both engines were trouble free. The 5.4 in my 04 FX4 is noisy (top end) uses oil and frankly - is a dog. Hope the Troyer tunes are all they say they are. So far - not the least bit impressed with the 5.4.

Hi!!!

I didn' see that one ..

You see that long block lightning motor that's in pieces on there . I 'm thinking about it- he could get more for it put back together or at least sell it quicker - must be to lazy to bolt it back together. I'm giving him an offer in no-one bids on it - I doubt they will.

Yeah - 4.6's , perfect for a Mustang..

That 5.4's going to run like s^^t with only one cam in it.

Sorry, couldn't resist! LOL

I'm not quiet! I think I have posted my a$$ off in this thread. I have 3 F150's in total. A 4.6 super cab (mildly modified daily driver), a 5.4 (was a 5.4) supercab which is in the body shop getting primped and preened for low 10's/high 9's (hopefully) with a HEAVILY modified turbo (88mm) 5.4 DOHC, and a 5.4 (bone stock SOHC) standard cab.

My 5.4 is bone stock. My little 4.6, with just the relatively mild mods it has, will blow the damn doors off the 5.4 in every way you can think of. However, I have had 10x the problems with the COP's on the 4.6. That's probably because it sees SO MANY more miles (120+, 30k on the new motor) than the 5.4 (28k total).

If I bought a new truck today, it would be a 3v 5.4. But if I bought another earlier model F150 (97-03), I would get a 4.6 and mod it. It's just such a fun and snappy motor when you wake it up a little. Just taking off from a dead stop, completely normally, not getting on it or anything, I have to be very careful because it will bark the tires. That has got me pulled over twice!

I like my 4.6

In my 4x4 screw it's great.

I'm not sure if folks have looked at a graph of the torque and hp and at what RPM it's generated.

If I had the 5.4, compared to my 4.6, I wouldn't notice a difference since I don't ever get it up in the RPM range you need, to see the difference between the 4.6 and 5.4.
