Crap !! Idunno , I don't think I should attempt it. For one I need a set of silde hammers to pull the pump and misc. special tranny tools that I don't have.

Drive it till she drops I'm afraid , I don't have the time to put into it..

When I drained the oil it was super clean so I didn't think much was wrong with it .

I know if I make some calls there going to say I need a rebuild..

The only way to tell if the converters shot is to pull the trans , slide the converter off , lay it on the ground and spin it - if you hear rubbing or binding it's toast .. I just have a feeling theres more to it.. Strange how this all started , right after getting a new set of tires installed..

I was thinking of pulling it to install a new boost valve , I have one. It's behind the pump and I would have to pull it (slide hammers) ...

Ya,if it's lasted a year and not really any worse hopefully it will keep going for you Hell,it prob would be easier to just just get a reman or find a low mileage used one.Thats what i would do only because i'm not good enough to rebuild a tranny.

Looks that way for me as well - Reman ..

When it's cold , it doesn't slip , studder at all - it takes a good 45 minutes before it will slipp a little at take off. Yeah, it's been like that for a long time .. Freakin thing

I've got 116K on my 5.4 it doesnt burn oil-as in no smoke, just somehow im always a quart low every 2-3 weeks. Havent done much to it., replaced the Alternator 3times, spark plugs 2 times, once I bought platinums and made for crappy starting, replaced with OEM type. K&N tube with a Dry flow filter. flowmaster exhaust and cut-out, it time to replace belt now. weighs about 5000lbs empty (no I dont go by the tag on jamb its incorrect per city scales) and gets horrible gas mileage.

you may be right on that. i have a pre 6/96 build, maybe this is one more of those "different but similar" part deals... no plugs before that manufacture date?

Does anyone read previous posts anymore, or do they just randomly post what's on their mind...

Jbrew, you take Klitch's suggestion get a reman.; then ship your trans out here so I can play with it and rebuild it for yeh. I wouldn't want to mess up my own awesome 4r70w...

- Your Funny Flareside

Thanx for the advice fella's but heres what I'm going to do. Carpart.com has come thru for friends and I over the years many times and once again they have found about 8 transmissions in my area for sale - the best one I found is out of a Lincoln Nav - the trans has only 42,000 miles on it and they want $800 for it - can't beat that. It's the furthest from me (about 170 miles) but still worth it.

I get to keep the one I have since the replacment is coming from salvage. Therefore, I can take my time and rebuild it. I can make most of the special tools needed for the rebuild and have confidence that I can do it.

Once mine is rebuilt I can resell the one I purchased since that one will have documentation on actuall miles and will remain untouched. I should be able make my money back eventually.

Heres an awesome step by step on the task ahead -

6 hours - He couldn't of tore the hole thing down and replaced everything - Idunno maybe , never done it , it'll prolly take me 6 months lol. I'll take my time and make sure it's right. I'm not trying to save money really - I wanna do it.

I'm goin out to pull the pan now - just to increase presure for third gear , all presures are on there lowest settings.

Hey Fast, you had your converter out before - Do you think it's posible for the converter to slip with the brakes applied then giving it a little gas, without engaging first. I'll pull it if it's the converter, but won't if it's the forward clutch..
