He's right, you know. Most everyone knows that if you change your oil every 3000 miles, you'll never have issue one!

97 F150

Mobil 1 with MC FL820S in my 97 F150. 150,000 miles

2001 Mustang Cobra SVT - MC 5W20 syn blend with FL820S
only reason I started using MC 5w20 was that no other 5W20 was locally available when I bought the Cobra. It gets good reviews on UOA and is cheap compared to Mobil1. So far no problems.

I know some guys on this forum think it is a waste of money to use expensive oil (Mobil 1)-but in 150,000 miles(F150) there are 0 deposits in the EGR passages and throttle body and IAC is clean. I know that this a problem for the 4.6 l Triton, but I believe( belief not fact) that Mobil 1 is responsible for lack of depoits.

Mobil 1 5W30 with FL-820S (Motorcraft), changed every 3000 miles. Currently has 213,000 miles on 97 5.4L F150. Runs smooth, put in 6qts at oil change, take out 5-5.5 qts. Its been that way since I started using Mobil 1 (at about 30K).

I've always used Havoline 20W-50 and Fram filters. I'll probobly switch to 10W-40 or something and a Motorcraft filter next time.

That has nothing to do with what a filter removes but I see where you are going and I am not biting.

Fram Filters are the Devil!!

2005 5.4 Screw
4 quarts Motorcraft 5-20 syn blend
2 Quarts (German) Castrol 0-30
1 Quart Redline 5-20

Used a Mobil 1 Filter for the first change. Using a Purolator Pure 1 for the second.

Fram filters have been known to fail immediately after installation. Anything you buy at wall-mart for 3 for $9 can't be good! Just my opinion, do your own dd.

I've got to check into this Motorcraft FL820 filter. Anyone know who makes it? Champion Labs probably?

Yup. And as for dirt.. My engine doesn't have any dirt in the oil. I don't know where that comment came from. Most everybody here stays on the highway all the time anyway. But even so, How do you think that a piece of dirt will make its way past the rings into the crankcase? The oil molecules have a hard time making their way past the rings.

I'm not trying to be a smartass, I'm just being realistic. I mean c-mon guys!!! Most of ya'll know how tough an engine really is. In all reality, you could take your air filter out, and never change the oil and the truck would probably still run fine at 150,000 miles. (you'd be surprised at how many people actually do this!!) Ford has it figured out to where you get decent service out of your truck without enormous expense. If your engine required a special filter, then the owner's manual would state it.

Chester, through the cylinder is not the only way to get gunk into the oil. The engine crankcase doesn't run in a vacuum, it takes in air. Dust/dirt is the #1 contaminant of oil and the #1 cause of excess wear in an engine.
