People = Too picky about oil

Ok I'm going through these forums and I hate to tell some of you folks (and I'll get a lot of flak and hate feedback) but you all waste too much money on expensive oils. I can change my oil every thousand miles on regular motor oil and still spend less on oil than you all do.

I have an 89 dodge ram. 318 motor. 279 thousand and still clocking. I've never touched the block besides spark plugs and maintenance.

98 F150 4.6 4x4 with 146k miles. Regular ol' motor oil none of that purple crap just good ol' dino sludge. It starts like the day it was made... pulls along just fine motor is nice and dandy many more miles in her and I abuse this truck like you wouldnt believe..

then my jeep.. well that blows through motor oil so I dont even have to change it... but thats got 250 and going. I did replace a cyl head the block cracked typical on these long sr8 6 cylinder blocks.

oh and my family runs their cars into the ground before giving them up.

We also have a 99 pontiac grand am... 176k on that (yeah it sees LOTS of iles).. My mother fails to change the oil on time and always uses regular non-synthetic oil..

Neighbor (ford mechanic) has a late 90's model Escort Wagon.. he's got 150k and clocking knowing him he buys the cheapest oil available.

Oil technology has far surpassed the needs of an internal combustion engine. Perhaps these guys should stop and think for a minute. Do I really need oil that won't break down or lose viscosity on the sun?

Does that 59 cent oil at Wal-Mart not meet (or even exceed) the standards set forth by the industry? So what's the problem?

I agree. I have never seen a bigger bunch of perfumed pontifcators when it comes to oil changes.

Sometimes I don't change my underwear for five or six days.

If you wore Purple underware, you wouldn't have to change it for two weeks!

You are probably correct.... But, it does make for entertaining reading! Some of the "oil" threads in the past got really heated! Most get locked after it starts getting personal and peoples mothers are brought into question!!

I say use whatever makes you sleep better at night..... If it's the .59 Wall Mart stuff, great... If it's the $5.00 stuff, then great..... It all feeds the economy in one way or another!

When people start paying for the maintenance of my vehicles, then they can have a say in what I put in it and how I drive it! Otherwise, just smile and enjoy the ride!

Mitch

look in any owners manual from the '60s....

it states...

"change the oil every 6 months or 6000 miles"
"use ford rotunda so on and so fourth"
did'nt matter if it was a 428 cobrajet or a 250 comet

this every 3000 was a product of the 4 cyl "revolution" in the early 80's

and just another way to squeezzzzzzzzze the $$$$$$$$$ out of all of us

Don't know bout that Zap. My oil gets fairly dirty at 3000. Maybe its my engine or filter or kind of oil I'm running, but its like black after 3k

Lets see what the bean counters say.

6 quarts every 1000 miles @ $1 a quart = $6 x 25 (25,000 miles) = $150.

6 quarts every 25000 miles @ $5 a quart = $30.

Nah, I'll take my Amsoil!
