Is my K&N air filter too far gone?

I kept forgetting to clean it. My mechanic finally replaced it and gave it back to me.

Is this too far gone to clean?

Hmm, Looks kinda rough...

If He already put a new one on there. It's pointless to clean that one and put it back on.

You can only get them so clean. But once they start getting holes in the wire. It may let dirty air in..

A cleaning kit is rather cheap. Give it a try. Spray on the cleaner (maybe a little extra in this case), let it sit and then spray it clean with a hose.

Could prove to be much less expensive than changing the filter. They claim 50,000 miles per cleaning.

I have a second filter that I keep cleaned so I can swap them out and not wait for the filter to dry.

That's what I was thinking; The kit is $10 - assuming that includes the cleaner and the oil?

It should pay for itself with two changes but this one had only 30k on it.

Your milage between cleaning really depends on what kind of driving you do. I say that meaning that if ur in a very dusty environment its gonna get dirty alot quicker or if you have it open like a cold air kit it will get dirty alot quicker. Id clean it and u wouldnt believe how clean it comes rather easily. Just be careful not to over oil it, you would get oil all over ur maf.

Thanks.

Can anybody confirm if the cleaner AND the conditioning oil are included and how many applications you get out of one?

Between cleanings

Warranty is for the filter itself not the cleaning interval.

I worked on a truck with a k&n that was much dirtier than that one. It cleaned up very nice. Well worth the $10 for the kit.

If you just want to see if it will clean...use dish soap.

If it cleans up nice...get a re-charge kit. They come in 2 sizes. The big one I've used as many as 6 times and it is still half full. You don't need a lot of oil and the aresol oil is cool and easier to apply.

I have a K&N in my atv, it looks like yours at times. The recharge kit is great. It usually takes me about 1.5 hours to recharge, the drying is what takes the longest, but it should not be a problem since you already have a filter installed. After recharge it will be better than the paper one they probably installed.

since you didn't clean the first K&N then you prolly wont clean the second. I suggest you stick with the paper ones and just replace them when you get around to it.
