Mine - MOD220551I16
Wait until you hear them on cold morning start ups. It’s starting to get cold here and they sound like a diesel until they are warm but Mahle says they are superior for boost applications.
HI!... WLF : Actually I was told that the MAHLE piston were one of the quietest ones on cold start ups. That's why I chose them. The cold start up knock has a lot to do how your block was prepped also. Mine has never made any piston slap noises at all. Real quiet.

It's not a piston slap noise and it may have to do with my CR is higher then stock. Like I said it sounds a little like a diesel, kind of a clack noise. It only does it when real cold. Once it reaches operating temp it changes.
I had piston slap and it is not the same.

HI!... WLF : Mabey, I have only 8.42:1 compression, so mabey that's why I don't have the noise. It still sounds like piston slap to me in what your discribing. Piston slap usually on occurs on these modular engine when they are cold and it is cold out. Hope you figure it out.

Neal,
There is nothing to figure out. This sound is perfectly normal for a center pin Forged Piston and is less then most. The piston if manufactured .001 smaller then stock and has to swell as it warms up. Also, my piston slap could be heard on start up but this noise is on acceleration when cold only, again the forged piston rocking in the cylinder bore.
Mahle assures me it has been tested and there is NO DIFFERENCE in longevity.
Mahle has pistons that have an offset center pin so there is no start up noise but they recommended this piston for boost. You will see, when it gets real cold up there.

HI!... Called my engine builder today. My 5.4 short block is done and ready to be picked up this SAT. Local performance shop called. Both COMETIC head gaskets and some FORD MOTORSPORT header gaskets will be in tomorrow. Will pick those up on SAT also. I called MIKE TROYER today and everything will be going out tomorrow afternoon for the heads : FERREA S/S sodium filled oversized undercut valves, MODMAX MANGANESE bronze guides, MODMAX valve seals, COMP CAMS custom grins/valve springs/retainers. Mike's going to check on this tomorrow but it looks like the final cam specs will be 0.550/0.550 lift, 234/234 duration at 0.50 with a 115 lobe center. This was a custom grind fabricated up for me by the cam tech's at COMP-CAMS for the TURBO engine. I'll be running N/A for about the next 6 months untill my turbo kit is finished. I'll post pics as soon as stuff arrives back here.

HI!... FOX LAKE. They really didn't give me a set of bum heads. We think they gave me the wrong heads. A shipping mistake. But the valve springs were definately not rated for the cams that I got with the heads.

HI!... Well JMC and I went out to my engine builders (SEIFKERS) today and picked up my short block. After getting it home, i cleaned up the block and repainted it and got the heads studs ready to go for the heads. Just waiting now for the valve train and cams to come in so we can get the heads done.

HI!... Well I got the engine mounts re-painted and mounted, oil filter/coolant manifold, and COMETIC head gaskets installed. Now all I need is my heads and I can put it back in the truck.
