Question Lots of miles means thicker oil?

I was just wondering if I should switch from Mobil1 5W30 Synthetic to maybe 10W30 or 15W30. This is because my 98 F-150 now has got about 108,000 miles. Is it time for a change, or am I just being overdramatic?

There is nothing thicker about any of those oils when the engine heats up to operating temperature.

There are some oil products that are made exactly for the purpose you have stated like this one from Vavoline...

I don't know what weight it comes in though.

I've got almost 124,000 on mine and still use the 5w30. Don't see any evidence of needing to change. Still only uses 1 qt every 3000 miles..... Same as it did when it had 62,000 miles on it......

I just found out that Ford is even recommending the 5w20 oil for F150 model years 1997 and newer.

thanks guys. He's been running tops so I'll stick to the 5W30 Mobil1. Now all I gotta do is get some extra cash to buy some underdrive pulleys
