The 1997 4.6 V8:what should I know?

So I was sitting around last night thinking about my Truck (I seem to do that alot since I got it )
and I began to wonder if there are any known or common issues with the 1997 4.6 V8's or the standard equipment they put on them? (heads? fuel injectors? alternators? etc..) Really is there anything I should know?

Any thoughts?

I've never know anything to go wrong with my 4.6L

Anywho, mine is a 98 and I think the 99 and 00's have some gasket problems or something?

98 4.6 expi

I hate my 4.6.It pings/detonates like crazy in either 80 degree
weather or in 19 degree weather with super unleaded etc.It only
has 67K on it and has been well maintained. No codes or CEL.I am sick of it and can't wait till it blows a hole in a piston or the headgasket goes.

I had a '97 now a '03..change the plugs every 45K...use only Motorcraft wires and Plugs...keep an eye on the pcv hose going to the back of the throttle body it will crack..and watch those frekkin brakes ...they do suck...It was a major change in stopping power when I went all 4 disc on my '03...the wheel cylinders will leak at 60K and make sure you have it flushed out and blead yearly

I bought a 1998 F150 4.6L automatic Ext Cab New in May 98. Today it has 117,000 Trouble Free Miles on it. I do take care of it though. Garage Kept with regular maintance seems to work Well. I hope to make the 200,000 mile club and so far it looks like I will. I have had to do the typical stuff. Battery Brakes Fluid changes Tires ect but no mechanical Failures so far. I did get a code P0401 once and had to clean the EGR Ports.

Good Luck with yours

Why change plugs every 45k? MIne tend to last a little longer than that. The 97 4.6 is a good engine, for the most part. Also, my truck has 130,000 miles on it, and I let it sit in a field for almost 18 months without even cranking it or moving it, and since then, I have had to change plugs and wires, fuel filter, 02 sensors, had to cut my muffler out (it was stopped up, I think from the cats breaking up), cleaned my IAC, changed my air filter, and changed one pulley (the tensioner pulley), and other than that, she's held up as fine as any vehicle I have ever had. And, it still looks good! No wheel cylinders leaking here, nothing going on like that. As long as you do routine maintenance on it, it should be ok. I ain't saying they never made a bad one, and I am sorry for the troubles that karnage experiences, but most of them are really good engines. Just keep it maintained, and you'll have nothing to worry about.

4.6's, if maintained regularly, are dam near bulletproof. Mine has 61,000+ miles and i have never touched it as far as repairs. Yea it pings in all weather conditions and gets 16-18 mpg, but i love it!

I have 96K trouble free miles on the 97 4.6. Replace the wires and plugs often, the forward O2 sensors every 50K with OE parts, and talk to it lovingly and it will be good to you. Throw your R470W in the crapper.
