THE TRUTH HURTS. my wife with 2 kids and the dog in her 97 tahoe (3.42 gears) spanked my *** in my 2001 5.4 supercrew (3.55 gears). I thought all the chevys were slow?

 

i got a bunch of stories but i will share one now. well i was actually going to get gas so i was in the left turn lane. my cuz was with meand he said it is a little bit cheaper at this other station. so the light turned green and i cut over into the right lane behind this civic kinda pimped out. i had no intentions of racing so i shifted to second. then he starts pulling on me a little so i was like ? so i floor it in second but acceleration is kinda slow from being at such a low rpm but me truck is pretty torquie so we are about even and still in the same lane and i am gaining on him. there is traffic in the left lane so i cant pass, but there is a right turn lane so i hit it and fly by. the kid in the civic goes to my cousin's school and he was talking to him about some black truck that raced him. he said we started off and all of the sudden i just flew by him. he said he thought it was a "lightning." obviously the kid was a little off. i will say that my truck is deffinately quick but it ain't all that so don't think i am trying to even begin to compare. anyway the kid described the truck he raced to my cousin and it was a perfect description of my truck. it is kinda cool to be talked about in my cousins school. i still have never taken my truck to the track but from the people i have raced and the ones that have ridden in my truck they say probablly around the 16's.

 

Hotshot: Post your info. for us please (year/engine/mods./etc.) thanks. I feel sorry for you if you consider 16's quick.

 

hold on a sec. when i say quick i don't mean all fast. but for the mods i have i don't think it is too bad. it was just the word that came to my mind at the time. how about everybody else post some times. quick to me would be about 14's. fast would be 12's and anything better than that is almost crazy fast. ain't nothing wrong with that. so my mods are short... superchip, af1 intake, and gibson supertruck exhaust. 2001 sport 4.2 5-spd 3.55 gears.

 

I just got some 4.10s put in....WOW what a difference...Anyways, I was cruising around just looking for some one to test the new gears on. Well I found a Honda Civic...From what I could tell it was bone stock(no stickers) except for a fart can, so this isn't a great kill or anything...just a lot of fun.

The light turns green and we go, I think he had me by an inch or so for a second...the acceleration is soooo much better with the 4.10s and the best part is, when the tranny shifts to second, it actually lurched forward. With the 3.55s, at WOT when it shifted to second it would lag for a little till the RPMs got up....not anymore. Needless to say I crushed the little civic

...oh yeah I got a limited slip put in to which helps some.

 

Ok sunday I was at a friends house and we were fixing to go and get something to eat. I have my girlfriend with me and he has a friend. So we decide to take my truck and his..He has a 85 or so 3/4 ton 351 Winsor(sp?) granny 4 speed. We were going to Chiles to eat so I was following him. I was itching for a race so I couldn't wait to line up next to him. We came up to a stop sign on a 4 lane road. I looked at him and he knew what was about to happen. He held his hand out of the window and counted down from 3. When he was done he punched it. Stupid me for got to put it into gear so he got the jump. I finally got my brain working and he was just about through the intersection. When I topped 1st gear I cought back up to the middle of his truck. Up into second is where I really showed him what the 4.2 5 SPD was made of. He shut it down when I was 2 truck lengths in front of him and havent even shifted into third....I love this truck....The only think he had to say is that it was new.....lolololololol

 

I bet you wish you were in the 16's.

 

Called weight! Those 4.2l v6 times are for a regular cab, where his 5.4l is moving a supercab PLUS 4 wheel drive.

 

ok, i was on my way to work on saturday and i am running late so naturally i am going to be driving fast. so i am passing cars and there is this red dodge 1500 passing cars in front of me. i am a block mason so i am pulling a mortar mixer with my truck. not too heavy but deffinately slows the truck down. so i am just following this guy and we are still in traffic i get a small chance to pass him so i take it, but there is traffic coming in the opposite direction so i pass as many as i can and jump back into my lane. he saw that i was now pulling a mixer. traffic cleared againand i passed the last car. he stayed there probablly because it was a double yellow line. anyway i got to the end of the road and made a left. he was about two cars back in traffic. he finally passed them and i saw him so i down shifted to 3rd around 70. he is behind me not really gainingi get to 90 and shift to 4th. now he starts to gain little by little we get to about 110 or so and he passed me. not very fast though. he gave me a thumbs up out the window and waved me to pull over. he asked what v-8 i had. i told him v-6 and he said yeah right let me see. so i showed him. turns out that he had a 360 5.9L regular cab with headers exhaust and a new computer and if i didn't have the mixer i would have beat him. for being a much bigger engine and having the mods he had he you'd think he would have blown me away.

 

I went to see XXX tonight and on my way home, a I pulled up next to a Ford Probe. He had stickers on his car and one of them was some racing team thing. I figured the stickers gave hiim like 20-200 extra HP. I wasn't gonna race him, unless he tried to toast me. The light turned green and we both started off normal, then he punched it. He had about a half truck lead on me before I punched it and I just smoked him. I let off when my speedometer said 95 but I wasn't really going that fast(gear swap screwed up the speedometer, need chip reburn). He was pretty far back.

So I'm cruising along at about 55 and he tries to fly by me...I started to speed up a little but I let him get past me then I floored it...smoked again. Lots of fun!!!!

 

My buddy has a 99 prelude with an intake and exhaust. he tries to race everyone and always says he can beat anybody. well one night he happens to pull up next to me so it was on. the light turned green and we were gone. my truck doesnt have too much take off, so i was suprised to notice that i was ahead of him. well by the time i hit 3rd i was 4 trucks in front of him so i slow down. we make it to another light and once again we were gone, once again i beat him. the bad thing was a lightning pulled into the parking lot where we stopped and wanted to race the prelude. i was confused why he wanted to race the loser.

 

I raced one of those courtesy vans some senior citizen homes have. You know like the econoline series :-) There were no opeople in it besides the driver. He was bout 30. Gave me a look, then looked at the bed of myy trtuck, ,and chuckled. When the light turned green we both went at it. I had him by a long shot. He didn't look so happy. The reason he though he could take me was I had my big *** freezer in the back!

I have also taken civics, integras, and a few others. Only up to speed limit though.

 

I raced a friend of mine who drives a talon. Its about a '95 or so I think, not exactly sure, its the non turbo with only the 140hp engine. (and he had the 5spd ofcourse) Anyway he wanted to race me so I said sure. I figured that if he only had 140 hp I could take him...hehe. anyway we do a rollingstart at about 20 and he jumped out quick while my engine took its time downshifting and taking its sweet time to get revving. He pulled about 3 - 4 car lengths on me too about 70mph and stayed about there too about 90 where I gave up(good decision ofcourse). I was impressed by his car until i found out his car only weighed 2500 instead of 3000 like I thought.... (i was bone stock at the time)

Also raced a new 02 camry
I was pretty sure it was the v6 cause it was the fancy model but it sure didnt perform like the v6 should. He was riding my bumper for a few miles and I was getting agravated. He finally decides to go around me so I gun it as he comes around. He was determined to pass me so he got on it and stayed right beside me too 100 where my speed limiter kicked in and he slowly walked away....very slowly....i kept the pedal on the floor after I hit 100 for about ten secs and he had only gotten maybe six feet in front of me.(still bone stock )

I figure with my few mods and coming chip I should be able to take the same camry and do much better agaisnt the talon.

Gee, lots of us buy the V-8 and automatic because it is rated to pull significantly more than the manual.

At least, that's why I thought I bought mine...

 

Ok. Back to the race stories. I was sitting at a red light in the left hand lane. And there was this pink chevy s-10(4cyl. 5-speed???) reg cab pickup that pulled up beside me in the right lane. When the light turned green, he floored it and peeled out his tires. I just left mormally, but when I heard the tires on the s-10 squeel, I floored it and popped it into second with an enormous chirp. Instantly I'm ahead of him and pulling away. But I had to let off because I was going 50mph in a 25mph zone. And the cops usually set and wait for speeders in that particular spot. He got the jump, and I still beat his a$$ by a truck length before I let up. Remember, this is only to 50mph. When I let up, he just kept on going full blast like he won or something??? Then at the next red light he proceeded to tailgate a car while revving his engine up and popping his clutch to chirp his tires about 2ft. away from the rear of the car. The woman in the car was honking her horn at him, but it did'nt seem to do any good. What a maniac. Or he's either a sore loser! This was a 45-48 year old man with grey hair in a freakin' pink s-10!. Talk about a 45 year old adolescent!
