Oil consumption in Ecoboost

I just did my second oil change in my 2014 Ecoboost. I was not happy to hear that it was down 1/2 qt in 5000 miles. Although I know that's well within limits, is normal, etc, my 15 year old Brand X truck with 195,000 miles on it used less oil. My 2011 SUV from the same Brand X has not used any measurable oil in 5,000 miles.

I was using Motorcraft syn-blend per the manual with a motorcraft filter. I switched over to the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum with an Amsoil EA filter which I've recorded outstanding Blackstone results with in other cars.

My suspicion is that gas contamination in the crankcase oil is causing the oil consumption. Aircraft engines have routinely diluted their crankcase oil with gas for cold weather operations. But aircraft engines don't last as long as automotive engines, for a lot of reasons. I just looked at the oil after driving less than 100 miles and it reeks of gas and looks like caca (family website) - lots of contamination showing compared to how my Brand X oil looked.

Do you add oil between changes to make 10,000 miles? I'm not really comfortable with it at > 1 QT low.

There is a TSB to correct the fuel in the oil issue, and this engine is not an NA engine and a forced induction engine will lose oil through the PCV, turbo seals etc. Pop the hose off on the drivers side valve cover that leads from the cover to the turbo intake, bet its full of oil mine was.

A Catch can will solve some if not all of this is what people are saying, I have yet to install one. Waiting on the UPR design change thats supposed to come out within the next few weeks.

I check my oil every 2 weeks or so and i'm happy to say the dipstick is showing 1/32" less now after 4000 M than when new and full. Seem like i do not have any fuel in oil issue (yes i smell the oil and no gas smell)
My 05 150 would eat 1.5-2 Q every 5000 M so this is a nice change.
