Question 2004 4.6 heritage coolant leak!?

I have a coolant leak that looks to be coming from the top of the block...? What could it be if all hoses look dry, Cap is on right, and Truck DOES NOT OVER HEAT..?

Do you have a 4.2 V6 or a 4.6 V8? This is the V6 forum.

Unhappy yet another problem....

4.2l sorry for the confusion, the leak actually stopped for some odd reason? and now my service engine light stays on and it reads codes saying its too lean on bank 1 and bank 2? I can hear a distinct whistle only when I give it gas and sputters...

Are the codes P0171 and P0174? If so, and it whistles, you have a major vacuum leak or intake tube leak after the MAF sensor.

If you have the heated PCV valve, that could be the source of both of your issues. It wouldn't hurt to take a quick look see at that first.

Yes, those are the codes. Where would the pcv be located? And would i have to take off the manifold to get to the pcv?
Appticiate the help, thanks.

The PCV is in the passenger side valve cover, all the way in the back. The hose from it goes into the side of the throttle body, and it also may have coolant lines going to it.

It should be on the side of the throttle body on the passenger side. There is one hose about 5/8 that comes up from the passenger side valve cover, and 2 small hoses for the coolant to run through. The small hoses look like vac hoses, do not remove them without depressurizing the radiator. There is one or two screws that hold the PCV in place.

I think the PCV is a dealer only item and they are around 35 or 40 bucks.

There is a short hose that connects to the PCV that burns through that can cause the codes you have.

Look at all those parts before you start throwing parts at it.

Good luck.

George, there is about 3 or 4 different configurations for the PCV. I think the 04 Heritage and my 03 have the same set up..........buuuuuuut I could be wrong. On mine the PCV doesn't look like a conventional "old school" PCV.

No Change

Changed the pcv elbow in the back and the rubber grommets, and the elbow that connects to the heated pcv valve...The whistle is still there... its weird because it idles perfect when parked, only when I put it in gear and accelerate does it whistle and then sputters...My truck was running great till I took to mechanic shop to get my oil pan gasket replaced and head gaskets replaced.. truck hasen't been the same since...

2004 4.2l heritage p0113, p0171 p0174

So it all started with me taking my truck to a mechanic to change the oil pan gasket, and Head gaskets...After driving the car home about 150 miles the service engine light turned on and had a random coolant leak that also randomly stopped...I scanned the truck with OBD2 and read codes P0171 and P0174...I changed the fuel filter, Spark plugs, Wires, Rubber grommets, PVC elbows, and hoses and made sure everything was snug and connected right...after all that I CAN STILL HEAR a small faint whistle only when I accelerate in gear not in idle and car sputters...also now that I rescanned my truck a new code appeared...P0113... my truck hasen't ran the same since...

The p0113 is intake air temp circuit high.

Check the intake tube between the air cleaner and the throttle body to make sure everything is tight. An air leak there will cause the lean codes you are getting. The IAT is also located in that tube, if it isn't seated or not there then you may have found your issue. Check the electrical connector to make sure it is clean and making good contact. I believe the IAT is located on the bottom of the intake tube. Also check the grommet where the wires go into the air cleaner box (the part that comes off when you change the air filter) to be sure it is seated.

Are you getting any misfire codes?
