Lost Confidence In Ecoboost
The conversation is getting pretty deep in the V6 forum.
I'm going to stick with my 3.7 too. There are many vehicle that are faster than my F150, which can be frustrating, but what the hell, I'm really starting to look like an old man with all this gray hair, so people would find it odd for an old man to be driving like a young whipper snapper.
If I had some spare change to burn, I'd sure have something faster. For now, I have to live vicariously through others.
To the OP, sorry to hear about your bad experience. Hope you have better luck with the V8.

I find it funny as someone else said that all of you are all FORD FANS,, but are arguing about ford engines,, as to which one is better or has more problems.
I am a vehicle fan as to who makes it isn't really that important,, they all have their problems. I had a chebbie s-10 blazer before this ford,, it had low grade misfire that I never could fix 4.3 v6.
So far for me this FORD p/u has been an amazing truck,, I haven't had do much to run the truck other then gas. That's my 2 cent.

At this point the 5L appears to have the lead and possible Mods easily done to improve its performance objectively for future owners. The 3.7 would be the daily white truck while the 3.5EB is workhorse king on a daily basis.
Its a well known problem that the spark plug gaps are all over the place from the factory on the 11 and 12's but since you didnt want to try to fix that problem or see if the tsb worked for the intercooler dont guess it matters now.
If I was an executive at Ford the above post would really bother me. Spark plug gap is very important to the performance of an engine. There are some really good articles talking about it on the internet: www.howrah.org/spark-plug.html. Anyhow, this seems like a serious quality control issue and cause for concern.

Coy,
At no point did I ever say the 5.0 was perfect. Any engine is susceptible to various failures or issues depending upon conditions, maintenance, wear, etc.
I see you added a few videos in order to validate your point. (I'm still confused as to why you're trying to validate a point with which I agree
) I feel certain that there are quit a few videos expressing EB issues on the intorwebs, too. But I won't post them. This ain't a pissin' contest about which engine has the most issues, for cryin' out loud.
For me, what gets old is generalizing all engines (one way or the other) with a few apparently isolated incidents. For example, the OP said he traded for a 5.0, and the very first thing you mention is that he'd better keep an eye on his oil level....as if to say, since it's a 5.0, it will get dangerously low on oil?
See? Generalization. That's the part that gets old for me. I've said it many, many times before, but here goes again....IMHO, Ford has done a fantastic job with all the available engines for the F150s.
By the way, your neighbor that hates his 5.0? If he gets a 2014 Silverado, I hope his is better than the rental I had for a few days. I had the 2014 with the "improved" V8, and I wouldn't take two of those trucks for my truck. There are several reasons for my opinion here, but the first thing I noticed about the Silverado was the lack of "go" when pressing the "go" pedal. Sure, the published power numbers are close to the 5.0, but for whatever reason, it has a very hard time putting power to the ground. Just

Apparently you have not yet figured out the point of posting: The 5.0 is perfect and the ecoboost sucks!
Reply: That a load of poo. My ecoboost is perfect and your 5.0 burns oil.
Reply: My oil burn is nothing compared to your intercooler condensation.
Reply: Oh Really! My ecoboost can totally beat your 5.0 in a race.

Don't shoot me! Every so often someone pulls out the turbos and claims they can save gas while producing more power. It doesn't take long for people to realize the turbos cause more problems than they solve. Good for Ford! They are making huge profits convincing people that there turbos are new and improved. For many, they have had no problems and they love the eco. I never bought into the sales pitch and consider it feeble. Other people are not happy and moving on. It doesn't matter, but I predict a shorter engine life and group of ecoboosters becoming eco-unhappy. That has been the history of turbos and this just seems like cycle 5. Then again, when Madonna started singing with her hairy arm pits, I predicted that she would be here and gone quickly. I think she was announced recently as one of the highest earning of the year. Who knows?

They are only $500 each from tascaparts. That is pretty cheap for a turbo. My Grand National turbo costs more than that and it's not watercooled like the Ecoboost turbos.

You sir, are gonna fit right in here. I'm liking what I see already; you remind me of someone I know very, very well

There is an element of truth to that. However, supercharging has its downsides too. The ecoboost took steps to be prepared for the added power. I am not interested in a truck race. If I was and I had the money why not supercharge a boss 302? I think that engine could handle more power that the 3.7 or regular 5.0. Again, it seems moot to me. I hope the 5.0 is a great motor time will tell. I hope the eco is a great motor. I felt better about the 5.0, but I don't tow...you know...while your replacing turbos, I'll be on the go...it's Christmas ho, ho, ho

I know the turbos are $500 each and someone has to install them. I have two of them in the bed of my truck so that I have one available for eco friends at all times. I just can't figure out why so many are so willing to spend extra for more power unless they don't plan on keeping the eco for over 100k. I really really enjoy my new truck. Its got 20k on it and the year isn't up. Maybe I won't wait until 300k, but I did last time. We'll see.
