Ecoboost and gear selection with 35" tires

Im presently searching the dealer inventories for a KR eco. I know I plan to level the truck and run 35" Pro Comp Xtremes. My question is should I opt for 3.55 or do I really need the additional 3.73 ratio in the offroad package to get the truck close to stock gear/tire ratio (I know 3.73 really isnt enough but hoped the power band on the eco would accommodate). Would appreciate any opinions or advice. Thanks.

I think you can get 4.10s with the ecoboost? If so, I'd get 4.10s if you know there will be 35's going on it.

Thanks for the reply jaws. Im looking to buy from present stock and havent located any 4.10's in the SE. If they do have it, it is with the towing package and big freaky mirrors mirrors.

The 4.10s are only an option on the FX4. The OP is looking at KRs. Also, the base ratio on the 4X4 EB is 3.31 not 3.55. The heavier tires will eat into your mileage.

I'd definately go with the lowest gears available if you plan to run 35's. I'm researching trucks now and that is my plan. I believe that 4.10's are only available in the FX4 package. I love the looks of the FX4's, but personally I need a crew cab with bench seats.

that and the fx4 is merely an appearance package. patinted grill and bumper with different rims. Mechanically and performance is no different than the XLT.

I dont think 331 are stock on the EB 4x4 if you are getting a super cab or bigger.

Think all you want to but Ford.com says you're wrong. The EB 4X4 comes standard with 3.31s on everything but the FX4 which has 3.73s standard.

I have 2011 FX4 Eco with 3.73 and I have it leveled with 34" GoodYear DuraTracs. I previously had a 5.4 with 3.73s and 35" Nitto Trail Graps. I ordered my 2011, so I had the option of the 4.10s, but decided to stick with 3.73, and I have been happy. However, based on this truck, and my old one, I would not want any gear ratio higher than the 3.73s with 35" tires. That my opinion. Hope it helps

so get it with a limited slip and have the dealer toss in the 4.10 or 4.56 gear swap for free
