2005 F150 XLT with 4.2l v6
I found a good 2 speed 18" fan (donated by a '90-something Mercury Cougar with a v8) for $37 and some change from a "pick-'ur-part" junk yard. Yay!
Now I'm looking for a spare fan shroud that I can cut up/modify, but my local junk yard doesn't have any '05's with a v6 (all their F150's are V8's). I looked online, but all I could find were *new* shrouds at $80+.
Anyone know where I can get a *cheap* used one?

Called around to junk yards all around me (out 100+ miles away) and no one has a new enough F150 with a v6.
Does anyone know if the fan shroud from a similar v8 toting truck would physically fit in the same spot as my current shroud? I'm going to cut it up anyway, so it doesn't matter if it lines up with my current mechanical fan...

I can't comment on your '05, but this is what I see comparing the shrouds between my '99 4.2 and my '03 5.4 work truck ...
The height/width dimensions are identical on the two shrouds, as they attach to the radiator and the radiators are the same size. The 5.4 shroud is about 1" deeper than the 4.2 shroud. Believe it or not, there is less room between the front of the water pump and the radiator on a 4.2 than on a 5.4.
My guess is that this also holds true for your '05 ... a V8 shroud will fit on the V6 radiator, but it may be too deep.
I got lucky when I did my efan and found a new factory 4.2 shroud for $40 on ebay. I didn't want to cut up my original shroud in case the efan didn't work out and I wanted to go back to stock.

I'm not certain why I didn't think to check eBay. I just checked and there is a seller with 5 new ones for $38 and some change. Unfortunately, he's also asking $20 shipping, but that'd still make this around $20 (or so) cheaper than the new one I found... I've sent the sent the seller an email via eBay to confirm that it's actually for a 4.2l sporting 2005 F150. If the reply contains good news, I'll end up grabbing one. After that, it's a matter of selecting a controller for it, then I'll have all the parts I need to get started.
Thanks!

A bit of progress...
Saw that one. It was actually in my search results *three* times (seemed to be posted into different sections of the forum). Quite nice, but it doesn't have much detail of actually fitting the e-fan. The biggest question I had was, does the existing shroud have to come off in order to do some test fitting of my modified shroud? If the Google search results I found are correct, it does, which is unfortunate for me (since my truck is my only vehicle).
Right now I need to see what kind of space I have directly under the shroud, as that will dictate what I do to the bottom of my modified shroud (the pic I'm about to attach will illustrate)...
What I'll need to know is if the fan can stick out the bottom like that, or if I'm going to have to trim it back to the same line as the shroud used to have... I'm going to look under the truck tomorrow afternoon and see what it looks like (waaaay too cold right now).
