4.2 dip stick reading

For some reason, my friend who owns a shop checked my oil level. He's not an f150 guy at all. He said "you're half a quart low." seemed impossible as I just changed the oil and definitely added 6 quarts. The dip stick level read right in the middle of min and max. Is that correct? Or should it be closer to max? He was trying to tell me to add an extra quart.

As long as its not touching "min" you're okay. Anything inbetween is fine. My truck takes 6.5 qts.

What does your dipstick read with 6.5?

Mine? Exactly halfway between the two. Maybe a hash above the middle. glc pointed out some time ago when this came up that Ford used different dipsticks from engine years.

Mine is about halfway up the crosshatch with 6 quarts. I do NOT add till it goes below the ADD line, then I add 1 quart.

Do NOT overfill these engines. Adding a quart when it's halfway will overfill it.

Thanks for all the insight, guys. I appreciate it. I suppose, while my friend may be pretty knowledgable about vehicles in general, he doesn't know everything about these trucks. Since I know for a fact my truck does not use any oil and it definitely has 6 quarts (I always change my own oil), I'll leave it as is.

Mine is the same exact way. Don't overfill it. Spec says 6 qts with filter change.

^X2.......Do you really think Ford made oil pans to hold 6.5 qts. of oil or more for just a few trucks out there? LMFAO!

They didn't make different oil pans but they did make different dipsticks

Ok,I agree with you on the different dipsticks. But,are you going to add more oil to a pan that is specifically made to hold 6 qts of oil because a dipstick is wrong? Wow,that's a real head scratcher!
