150 eco or 250 6.7? Help please!

I am trying to decide between the 2011 f150 screw ecoboost with the 3.55 or the f250 screw 6.7 dsl with a 3.31. I drive a 07 250 with the 6.0 and get 19 on the hwy but only 11- 12 in town. I don't tow much at all but I run loaded with tools in the bed all the time. I like the 250 quite a bit more but am mostly trading in for mpg... Test drove both trucks on the same 30 mile loop on the highway.

At 77 mph the eco got 16
At 77 mph the 6.7 got 19

At 67 the eco got 19
At 67 the 6.7 got 29!

Cuise on same hwy loop of about 15 miles in each direction. Mpg off the readout.

Driving the 6.7 around town with a light foot in traffic it got 15.8
The eco seemed to get about 12!

I do like the 250 more and it is what I am used to but the eco is supposed to get better numbers than I am showing. Also dsl fuel costs about 15% more...

I really cant see the the 6.7 ever getting better mileage then th EB purely because of emissions control stuff weighing it down, but with that stuff deleted out I could see it getting good gas mileage. Deisels cost more to mantain too, But IDK either or, just ask yourself will the f150 do what you need it to do? or do you really need more? the powerstroke its like double the torque, do you need that to justify the extra money spent on it?

Those numbers are way off what i get with my EB. 4X2 3.15 LS rears.
City consistently 18 -20
Highway/interstate 21 - 23.5

I dont know if I would believe a Superduty getting 29 even if I seen it with my own eyes!

I have had as low as 15 - 17 around town, but I was having one hell of a good time doing it! I have not seen 12 since I got rid of the 08 Superduty.

the ecoboost should be a bit better than what you experienced. I've been seeing 21 on the freeway at 75mph. 15-16 around town.

Do the math though on how much more $$ the f250 is in upfront purchase. Then the difference in milage * how much more diesel fuel is over regular.. work it out over how many miles you plan to keep the truck and see the true difference in cost.

If it works out that the F250 is better true cost then go for it since you like it better. Even if it is slightly more expensive in the long run it could be worth it because it will make you more happy. (sounds like you like the F250 better).

Not to ask a dumb question, but did you zero out the MPG readouts? You will experience different numbers depending how you drive the trucks. If you got 29 MPG in the 6.7 you best go back and buy that same truck! Just my 2 cents.

I think I like it better because it has slightly more storage on the interior and it is more of what I am use to. I don't need all the extra power and am more interested in mpg and overall fuel price. I can't get the 3.15 on the f150 because I need a 4x4 with limited slip for when I go hunting. I believe that puts me in the 3.55 rear end. It is good to hear the mpg's are better that I thought. I do want to like the 150 and am sure I would get used to the smaller interior quickly. Does it get pretty similar mpg's with a moderate load in the bed?

I did zero the readouts at the same spot on the hwy on both trucks. I tried to be really scientific and equal with the trucks which is why I used cruise and made sure to run the exact stretch of road. I am going to test them both again soon and will probably do the same test again. I will post the number again for sure.

The 6.7 is going to get a lot better mileage than the 6.0 or 6.4 because of the DEF (urea) injection. If I were going to tow heavy, I'd get the Super Duty, no question. Also, if you are looking at Super Dutys, drive a 6.2 gasser too and see what you think.

A diesel is not needed unless you will be towing a lot of weight a lot of the time...

The ecoboost will be cheaper to purchase, maintain, and fuel. I also like the cab better because of the extra room on the F150 as well.

The real question - how much weight is going to be carried in the bed?

That includes tongue or pin weight of your trailer.

thats a heck of a comparison difference. I would not think the cost would be justified, unless you were towing a lot of heavy stuff. Thats why I ended up going the route I did. I am a big diesel fan, but their premium price was just too much up front.

my friends 6.7 is killing my 5.0 mpg, it's getting ~17-18 city and low 20's highway according to him. i'm getting 16 city. i would doubt it but i was getting 16 city in my 05 6.0 powerstroke before i started modding it so his numbers aren't to far off from what i was getting.

but can you justify a ~$15k price difference in the trucks?

as for size, i miss my 250 for that reason alone but not enough that i regret my decision. my dad just went up to a 250 from a 150 and likes it, but i have a feeling he will go back to a 1/2 ton in a couple years.

I believe the 3.31 is the base rears for the 4X4.
