Air Filter?

What (high performance) air filter do you consider the best. i live on a gravel road so i dont want somethin that is to free flowing...

im thinkin K&N but heard they are to free flowing and let alot of dirt threw... was wondering what i should get.

Will it help my millage?

Will it make it sound any diffrent? will it give it a deeper tone.

i know what airfilters do on diesel's... u belive that? i own a gas... but no know alot about gas but no alot about diesel... i dont understand myself lol... anyway. all input is greatly appreciated

I just go stock... the 4.2l just doesn't suck in enough air for it to be really worth it to go with a CAI or even a different filter.

Do the MAC intake, ebay intake, or make your own. You don't need to buy an expensive one, because the only difference would be the price.

I'm using the stock intake and air box with a Napa Gold paper filter right now. Next filter will probably be an Amsoil dropin.

If you live on a gravel road, I'd go for high filtration efficiency, not high flow - unless you like cleaning your MAF, intake tube, and throttle body frequently.

I personally use only Motorcraft filters, but Wix are nice too.
I wouldnt be too worried about a K&N letting dirt into your engine. The difference in airflow and filtering from the OEM filter to a K&N is so slight (its something like a 2% difference), that IMO its not something to be concerned about.
A cold air intake isnt going to help your milage either, if anything it would hurt your milage because its letting the engine get more air. Especially in the winter it will hurt your milage because it lets the engine get too much cold air.
I would just stick with the stock setup. Afterall, your truck only has a V6 in it, so its never going to be fast no matter what you do.
You also have to be careful with those oiled filters like a K&N because if you overoil the filter, the oil will foul out your mass airflow sensor.

Not to mention you are prematurely wearing out your cylinder walls and o-rings.

I never run anything but a paper filter... amsoil or motorcraft for me.

Better milage AND more power??? Aint gonna happen. If you want more power you must burn more fuel.
Besides, you arent going to gain 25 hp with a few simple bolt-ons. Face it, you have a V6. Your truck is never going to be fast. If you wanted power you should have bought a truck with a V8.
Your best bet is to save your money for a few years and trade up to a truck with a V8.
I dont mean to be a jerk, but thats the way it is.

True, but with our under powered motor, more power is better mpg. Only because it doesn't have to strain itself to move.

I got more power and better mpg (14 avg stock - 19 avg now) with $1k in performance mods.
