Congrats. No problems that I've heard of.

Change your oil & filter every 5k miles if you use the recommended 5W-20 Motorcraft synthetic-blend. Grease the steering componants every oil change, change your "tranny fluid" every 30k miles (uses 3.75 qts of Mercon ATF), keep an eye on your coolant and gear oil. You know the drill.

Well, my 2001 M5OD tranny has a drain and a fill hole on the driver's side of the tranny. I don't know about the 04+ F-150's with the manual. You might check your owner's manual to make sure how much and what kind of tranny fluid to use, just to make sure.

If Ford is using the same M5OD transmissions on the 04+ V6 models, it problably uses Mercon ATF like the Heritage bodystyle. I'm just guessing, but the best thing to do is check your owner's manual.

Also, you could ask Quintin over in the 04' forum about it. I do believe he's a Ford tech, and he should be able to tell you anything you want to know about your truck.

Good luck with your new F-150!

I have 13,000 miles on mine. Its also a 4.2L 5-speed. Only issue so far was a leaky differential seal. Took it to the local Ford dealership and they re-sealed it under warranty.

2004 Heritage 4x4 4.2 V6 5-speed manual

No problems at all.

22,000 miles.

These are good trucks. They are at the end of body style and the engine and transmissions are mature. All of the bugs have been sorted out and solved by Ford.

Congratulations on your new truck. It will last you a long time.
