Anybody over 100,000 miles with factory engine
I saw a post in "Engines" asking who was in the 100,000 mile club? I though there might be some interest here. If you have a high milage 4.2 V6 let us know, and feel free to pass down some wisdom. I have a Bronco II 4x4 with 177k original miles. It is a great truck and other than the power steering pump, shocks, and nice BFG 235 70 15 tires is completely original. My new 2003 F150 4x2 4.2L is running great at 1000 miles .
My tip to you all is drain your engine coolant regurlarly, and put some Ford, or your favorite brand, of stop leak pellets in with the new fluid. Im going to do this at 50K on my 2003, and try to ward off the gasket issue, just in case. LOL

142,000 miles on my '97, original engine. Spark plugs, wires and front brakes at 93,000. Replace rearend at 124,000. Replaced battery at 6 1/2 years. Drained and refilled trans at about 90,000. Used Motorcraft 5w30 until about 115,000, now use Castrol 5w30 and Fram or Motorcraft filter. Gasket replaced under warranty early on for water leak. Added stop leak to radiator about 2 years ago for water disappearing from reservoir, was seeing some steam and smelled antifreeze on startup. The stopleak fixed it. It leaks about one quart of oil in 4,000 miles. Overall, I couldn't ask for a better vehicle at this mileage and nearly 7 years old, rides and drives like a new one.

Awsome reports!
Nice to see some good numbers for the 4.2. I really like the truck, and the fact that I can see the plugs and wires. I told my salesman I was getting the V6 because it looked like a servicable engine, over the v8's.
Bartruth, that is exactly how I plan on maintaining my F150. I run a little stop leak in all my vehicles, as insurance, especially the one with Dexcool, it is bad stuff.
If you repost, why did you switch from Motorcraft 5w30 to Cast. I too use Cast 10w30 in everything else, and Im just curious.
Keep the posts coming, and keep on wheeling.

I have a 97 f-150 xl 4.2L with 206,000 miles on the original motor. My check engine light has been on for the last 60,000 miles or so. According to the code that is making the light turn on i am losing compression in the #1 cylinder. The idle is rough when i start the truck but other than that it runs great. I have also been running 35" tires with 4.56 gears for the last 100,000 miles or so. I'm very glad to see after reading this post that there are people out there with more miles on their trucks than me! It gives me hope that there might be a little more life left on my motor.

Guys I have a fully stock 97 ford f150 w/auto tanny(tranny is as smooth as can be). It has 170,000 miles! Never rebuilt or anything still runs good.
thanks,
Brad
also have a 2002 Ford f150 Thunder. Thunder is a upgraded lightning package. 18" rims, catback dual side exhaust system, euro's, fog lights, type of side skirts, fiberglass bed cober, and some type of winged rear bumper. I also have a few mods to the engine: Airaide intake, Helix throttle body spacer, and a chip, but not sure what type(It came w/the truck when I bought it w/12,000miles).
ALSO LOOKING FOR ANYONE WHO HAS TURBOED A 4.2. IF NO ONE KNOWS I'M GOING TO CUSTOM MAKE IT W/ONE OF ONE OF MY FRIENDS. WOULD LOVE TO KNOW WHAT YOU GUYS THINK!
Thanks,
Brad

299,980 miles***V-6 4.2 1998*** On my way back from the moon! The oil pressure guage is not reading like it used to, every now and then lately. Have a noise up front. Watch out for those money guzzling shops who want to do nothing but drop a new engine in. I have a few suggestions if any body wants to beat the (whoopee?) 100,000 mile club.
