Hurst 5 speed shifter
Anyone out there have a the new Hurst shifter on thier 5 speed tranny yet? I'm going to buy one but I just thought I would see if someone already has one and how do you like it? Mark M
Just thanking you for the info. I have a 98 F150 five speed and have been waiting for Hurst to come out with a shifter. They have had one for the Chevrolets for quite a while. Now if they make a nostalgia type ball with the shift pattern it would be great. (similiar to the Camaro one, white or black ball)
hey guys. dont get too happy with this, because to be honest, it exists but its not being sold. there were problems with the design of some of the cabs on our trucks that they had shifters hitting the dash and stuff like that. if you want to see one go to www.troyerperformance.com and go to transmissions and to go 5speed. you will find it there. they have a price and everything but i doubt they would sell it. but check it out for yourselfs. its always good to wish.
I ordered one from Troyerperformance. The next day I got a reply from them saying the shifter is still in R&D and won't actually be out until November. The reply was from Mike Troyer's wife (I'm embarrassed that I can't remember HER name). I think they should put some type of statement on their site saying the shifter isn't available yet. Once it is available and the"bugs" have been worked out I definitely plan on buying one. The stock shifter in my truck is kind of "finicky" and has problems shifting 1 - 2. The same thing happened with my '97 (I have a "00 now). Anyone else have this problem?

It is possible. Becuase it is grinding going into reverse from a standstill, I would definately try to rule out a clutch problem before getting into the tranny.
You could have old contaminated fluid ( if its not been changed regularly), air and/or water, or a leaking cylinder.
Be sure to run a pint or two of new fluid through it to clear everything out. I use a Gunsons Eezi-Bleed which makes one-man bleeding a snap.

Could also be a damaged clutch plate causing dragging.

it doesn't do it all the time... i just went out there and started it up and threw it into reverse, no problem... but other times it doesn't, i think i noticed a pattern at one point... like it would only grind if i had already moved forward a bitand then stopped and switched it into reverse, but i'm not sure...
