There are different schools of thought on where to measure the transmission's temperature.

If you want to see the hottest temperature, the line from the transmission to the cooler is best.

I prefer to know the average operating temperature of the transmission. That is best measured either in the pan or the test port in the side of the transmission. Both locations will give the same temperatures.

The problem with the cooler line is that this temperature will vary quite a bit. When the torque converter unlocks this temperature will rise QUICKLY. It will look pretty scary until you get used to it.

Your maximum temperature in the cooler line should be abut 250-260f.

Thumbs up

Thanks, SteveB.

Looks like I'm going to have to move the gauge. I don't know what the differential temp. is across the radiator cooler. When I move the gauge to the input to the radiator I'll report on what the difference was.
