automatic transmission

2002 Screw 1100 miles, not sure which xmission I have.
Has anyone noticed or dealt with shudder when taking off from dead stop when in overdrive only? With overdrive off, do not notice it.

I haven't had any shudder on my truck yet and it has 63,000+ miles on it.

No shudder on mine, just slides in gear and launches like crazzy.

all s-crews except the harley version...have the 4r70w tranny...

my '02 s-crew has a thunk/clunk upon stopping or taking off from a stop...but it doesn't matter if the overdrive is on/off.

I have an 02 FX4. I noticed a very subtle quiver when starting from a stop. It's not a shutter or shake. It begins after about a car length and lasts a fraction of a second. The service manager has the same truck and says his does it to that it is normal (who knows). He thinks it has something to do with the transfer case.

Hey, I have the same shudder too. Last for only the first 1/2 second. I had chalked it up to axle wrap causing a slight bind in the u-joints under hard launch. I had decided not to worry about it unless it was still there after adding traction bars to control the axle wind-up.

I've never checked to see if it is the same in or out of OD, I'll do so today.

Let us all know if you find a trans problem.

Not that I discount your observation, but from rest the transmission operates EXACTLY the same with the overdrive enabled or disabled. The only differences are when coasting, and with the overdrive disabled you don't shift to fourth gear.

I checked my "shudder" today. It does it in or out of OD so for the time being I have to go with axle wrap.
