Newby Dumb Questions...

I am going to start towing with my 4.2l, 5spd. and I have some questions:
Do I need a Trans. cooler on a manual?
Does LS help getting off of a slippery boat ramp (2wd)?
Would it help to have an aux. engine oil cooler?
Any other upgrades that I've missed?
Thanks in advance.

Maybe an aftermarket chip

Now, I have a question for you.

How can you stand the traffic up there?

Thanks for the replies. That confirms what I suspected. Any one know how much it's gonna cost me to have either LS or a locker installed? Any suggestions as to which is best, I do 99% street and only want better traction for infrequent snow, mud and slippery boat ramps (10 - 20 times per year).

As for traffic; I work close to home (lucky). You get pretty good at knowing areas to avoid during certain times and you learn a lot of back road options. In short, it sucks but you live with it (like taxes).

As I recall the LS was about a $220 option, for reference.

If it was me, I'd make sure I actually had a problem before I tried to fix it.
I would think the V6/clutch would be as much of an issue as whether one or two wheels were spinning.

The other thing you might want to check is your rear end ratio..
I think I've seen some V6 5sp's with the 3.08 rear end to maximize fuel efficiency. It would really be tough to tow with that..

So, if you do decide to add an LSD rear, you'll probably want to change to a 3.55 ratio while your at it.. (If you don't already have 3.55).

Do a search on google for a L/S carrier for your truck(I think you have an 8.8) but I'll tell ya, in the long run you'll come out cheaper to get a complete L/S from a junk yard and swap the whole thing under your truck. Think about it (250 for gears,100 for bearing kit,350 for actaul L/S carrier, 300 install) as you can see its cheaper to go to a bone yard and find a good condition stock L/S rear and swap the whole thing over.

If you were gonna go whole hog like a locker and 4.56 then that would not be the case but it would also not suite your needs. For the conditions you listed the stock L/S 3.55 rear will do you fine.
