general question about a ford tranny.

I know this is a little off topic, but I am having some problems with my 93 ford taurus. If I stop at a stop sign and let the car come to a complete stop when I try to move again the trans slipps. It is getting worse everyday. It will slip for a second make a nosie and "clunk" into gear. I dont really care about the car and just drive it in the winter and on bad days. Is there anything that i can try to do to fix it? Would changing the fluid and filter help?

Thanks

John

The transmission needs a rebuild.

The forward clutch pistons often crack, resulting in a loss of engagement at idle. The transmission needs to come out of the car and be totally disassembled to change it. While it's that far apart it is only a little more money to do a complete rebuild.
