Hello I have a 2007 f150 super crew 4x4 that I just bought at auction. the stereo has been pulled out and I can tell that there was other speakers in the truck. The engine starts fine but will not go into gear. The shifter does work but does not engage. Is there a safety switch on the stereo that will not allow the transmission to work. Thanks Nathan

No there is not. If the trans won't go into any gear it is either out of fluid or has an internal mechanical failure.

when you bought it at auction was it a repo? usually on repos, the tow truck driver will disconnect the shifter linkage at the transmission. take a look under there to make sure its attached. if it is, then go with what Mark Kovalsky said.

Yes im thinking some bigger issues. I put it drive and shifted it a little and it barely started to move but real slow while the engine rpm was increased then I got a transmission failure code on the dash. Dang

Forgot to mention that the truck has a whinning sound like a power steering pump low on fluid. I read somewhere were a guy had similar issues and changed fluid and filter and worked great. Truck is not a repo but had a little bedside damage and fender damage but driveable. Thanks

Stupid question - have you checked the fluid? It might just be low.

If you got a trans failure code, you can read it out with a high end scanner.

It could be something stupid like a clogged or dropped pickup or something like that - it would be worth your time to drop the pan and look for something obvious like that. If you find a pan full of parts, that will also tell you a story. The only thing that should be in there is the yellow plastic bobber, if the pan has never been dropped before.

ok I will drop the pan, as dirty as the truck was it may not have been changed. I have to assume the truck was running when he had the accident. Thanks
