i have found some info on this through researching but dont quote me on this. i looked through different forums and searches but am not 100%.
There are 2 main tr codes that we see are: U= 4r70 and B= 4r75. you will find these on the door tags on the driver side.
main difference is the 75 has more torque capability than the 70. also the W stands for wide ratio and the E stands for electronic. whats wierd is the "W" wide ratio is electronic but not electronically shifted and the "E" is the same wide ratio but electronically shifted which makes them not that different. most all 04+ will be either a 4r70e or 4r75e depending on engine, 2/4wd and towing options. 4r75e wins. these will handle more than the advertised 350/400 tq capablililty. not much more than 450 stock before slipping.
4r100 are not common because they exist on lightnings, 7700 trucks, or harley's that were supercharged but are the strongest. (ex. 2001,2)
hope this helps

Both transmissions are electronically shifted. The electronics are identical.
When I was at Ford I couldn't find anyone that could tell me why the switched the letter from W to E. Both transmissions have identical ratios and both are electronically controlled. The only difference between them is that the 4R75E has stronger parts to increase the torque capacity.
