05 ford f150 transmission problems

To start I have an 05 f150 4x4 with 130,000 miles. Bought with 120,000 and have no idea about any services that were performed. Out of the blue when I go in reverse it really revs up to get moving, have no problems at all while going forward. It started while trying to back out of an uphill parking spot and the transmission fail light came on and the O/D light started blinking, I turned it off sat for a minute and when I started up everything seemed fine except when I have to go in reverse.
Does anyone have any suggestions that could cause this.

Go get the codes read. You need a higher end scanner to read Ford trans codes, the freebie Autozone scan can't do it.

An old mechanic told me to try Lucas transmission fixer. Has anyone on here had any success with that. He said it wouldn't fix it but it would get me some more life out of the tranny.

Don't put ANYTHING in your tranny except ATF until you find out what the problem is.

took it too the shop last night and the code ended up being a speed sensor was all that would come up. The mechanic is going to pull the plate on Friday and see if there is any metal fragments in there, thinks it might be the clutch plates.

I have a problem on my '03 XLT w/5.4, 4R70W trans, and 217k miles. It shudders from a standing start when warm, and stops after shifting into 2nd or 3rd. I can keep it from shuddering if I push the O/D switch button to "off" before I start. Once I'm going, I can push it back on.

I've seen posts that changing the fluid and filter can fix it, and some that say adding some sort of additive does, too. Others insist you make sure to use Mercon V fluid, not Mercon/Dextron "combo". Yet others say you have to put a new torque converter in. I dunno - anybody have a for-sure and clear-cut fix for this?

With 217k, start thinking about a rebuild.

It's not the torque converter. New fluid won't fix this. Your problem seems to be a slipping forward clutch. Nothing short of a rebuild will help.

What you have read that new fluid can fix is torque converter shudder. This happens around 40-45 MPH while the transmission is shifting 3-4 and the torque converter locks with shudder.

You need to get the codes read out and go from there.

Linkage issues would be the most likely culprit.
