Which transmission?
Which transmission?
Do I have a 4R70W or 4R100? How can I verify what I have?
The vehicle is a 2001 Expedition. It is 2WD and came with a 5.4. I assumed that I had a 4R70W. Today I was going to install a Troyer valve body for the 4R70W but was pleasantly surprised that it is not a 4R70W, I think. The new valve body looks like nothing in my transmission when I removed the pan. I installed a FTVB in my 2000 Lightning 6-7 years ago and the valve bodies from both look very similar.
I have 20 bolts that hold the pan on, not 14. The transmission oil pan has "Metric" on it.
I just finished a lightning swap. Everything has gone great. JJ at Woodbine Motorsports did the tuning and I couldn't be happier. I wanted to get the same shifts that I have in my lightning with a FTVB.
Thanks for any help.

It looks like all of the expedtions with 5.4 engines came with a 4R100, from 99-02. It seems like every thread that I read on this forum dealing with Lightning swaps into F150s or expedtions, the trans was always a 4R70W. I guess I will be sending this valve body back to Troyer for the 4R100 valve body.
Thanks guys. I am convinced it is a 4R100. The axle code is H9, 3:55 LS. This drive train is just like my lightning's!!! I was afraid the extra torque and hp were going to eat up the transmission. This was a pleasant surprise.
You did a really good job with the swap and I love how it looks and performs. Give me a call if there is anything you need.
