I think it's worth the extra money myself, whether you use it or not. My reasoning is simple, to upgrade to the two planet carriers the PTO gets fromt he factory would cost about $400 just in parts, without any labor figured in. Another thing about the PTO I didn't mention is the coast clutch gets an extra friction plate and the plastic thrust washer between the pump and the coast clutch is replaced with a big honking ball bearing assembly. The PTO coast drum is list $235 itself, I use them in all my built transmissions, just for the extra plate and the ball bearing. The case is almost exactly the same, except for the hole in the side, and the linkage is different so you can't just buy a new tranny and swap them easily without replacing hte linkage whatever that would involve. I'm with Mark on the durability, I can't say for sure it will hold up longer, but it sure won't hurt, and it may add a few dollars in re-sale, too.

Hope this helps,

G

Hi FT

Tks. for update.

That is alot done to insides.

V10 (tks) listed invoice for PTO provision...based on what your saying...cost of parts etc...thats a good deal from factory.

Question: Would there be any noticeable difference in way tranny works/shifts etc with the pto provision (no external power acc.)

Another decision to make.

Tks.....OT

There is no difference in how the PTO and non PTO transmissions function.

This is starting to sound like a great little secret for a stronger tranny. I think I will order the PTO option. When you're spending $35k on a truck what's $200??

Thay have a slightly different main control, and honestly I'm not usre why, but they function exactly the same. I think the main control difference is something about compensting for increased demand at idle when the PTO is running in Neutral or Park, but I'm not sure. I never got too curious about it, they're relatively rare trannies and I dont get to work on many of them.
