I'm so confused about towing...

I have been pouring over thread after thread and it seems to make things worse. I can't find what I want to know. I have a 2010 F150 4.2L with 3.55 gears. I want to be able to tow a TT and a 17ft fishing boat at the same time so I can go camping and boating. I've seen it done before. I just can't figure out what size TT I can get and still be able to tow my boat... Can someone help me figure this out?
Thanks

My question is why did you get a V6 if you wanted to tow a TT and a boat at the same time .

Do you mean 4.6? The 4.2 was not an option in the new F150's.

With your motor option I would suggest a small jon boat and a pop up trailer.

It is legal here in texas, well let me rephrase that ive seen alot of rigs cruising down the road with that setup. But never seen one set up with a f150. Always 3/4 ton and 1 tons

Most states that allow doubles require that the hitch and ball mount exceed both trailers GVWR when towing. This many times exceeds the capacity of double bumper pulls and usually requires the 1st trailer to be either a Gn or 5th wheel and the trailing trailer to be a bumper pull.

ALSO,
Maximum speed for trailers in Tx is 55 mph... this gets exceeded all the time!

When towing tandem like that (assuming its legal where you are) Im quite certain you need to pull a 5th wheel and a bumper hitch behind that. Its legal where Im from and see it from time to time but dont think a half ton will handle all that weight.

So in a nut shell... I dont think you wil be able to pull all that. You will go over your GCVWR with that setup.

Or you could buy a small motorhome and tow your boat with it.

Towing laws by state, and per this Texas does allow double tow as long as it is under 65' in length.

When I was a teenager, we towed a 26' TT with a 1971 F250 and we also had a 19' Fiberform ski boat..

Normally, we kept the boat moored at the local lake and would go to it to ski and stay at the local campground with the trailer..

The few times we wanted to go to other locations within a couple hours from home, we would have to make 2 trips... One to take the trailer.. Setup and then Dad and I would go get the boat and take it..

Sure, it made for a long day, but these kind of trips were for a week or more, so it wasn't so bad... Dad would let me drive the truck with the boat, so it was all good for me!!

Anyway, "Where there is a will, there is a way" comes to mind here... Other times, we would camp with another family that had a vehicle capable of towing the boat, so we towed the trailer and they had the boat and it was all good! Us kids slept outside under the stars or in a tent, so that left the grownups to share the trailer...

I miss those good 'ol days of carefree camping and being a teen with little to no responsibilities!! Dad always seemed to make it work one way or the other and it was a great childhood to say the least! Thanks DAD!!

Mitch
