New tires and Rancho Quick Lift and opinions wanted

Hoping to install the leveling kit this weekend. One question though, as it appears that I need to disconnect the outer tie rod end to get the old coil-over out, is it recommended to replace the tie rod ends at this time as well? About 70k on the truck but the boots seem to be in decent condition. Minimal play in the steering wheel.

Any other helpful hints for the install? I'm going to take pics, before during and after so I could post those if its helpful.

It'd be a good time for tie rod ends and ball joints if they're worn since you'll be getting an alignment after anyways.

I did a Rancho QuickLift on my 2010 SCrew, at around 72K. No issues at all, and didn't need to replace anything (other than the shocks and struts). Love the results.

Thanks for the responses. I did notice a slight wobble in the steering wheel around 65mph. I should not that I'm on the original tires at this point so I'm sure that doesn't help the wobble as the tires have seen better days.

Sorry I do not have anything technical to add but I am looking forward to seeing the pics as I am looking into the Rancho Quick Lift for my 2007 or a 2" Auto Spring level.

What are your plans for tires and wheels after the install?
Are you 4x4 or 4x2?

Within the last two weeks I replaced my 2.5 AS spacer with the Rancho Quicklift and put on a new set of Goodyear Duratrac tires.

My truck has just over 100,000 and I was having IWE issues as well so while I had everything apart I replaced the upper control arm/ball joint, sway bar links, front hubs/bearings, acutuators, CV shafts, new rotors and pads. So basically an entire new front end. I did not think the truck drove bad before but after the repairs it drives 100 times better.

I had a set of tie rod ends that I just did not have enough time to get on when I had everything else apart so when I got the tires and was having the shop to do an alignment I asked them to install. Once they got it up on the lift the guy came in and asked my I thought I need new tie rod ends. He took me out and showed my that what little slack I did have was in the rack and pinion and said that he thought the tie rod ends were fine. I appreciated his honesty so I did not have them installed.

If you do decide you need a set I have a brand new set of tie rod ends I will make you a good deal on.

For instructions just go to the how to section. There is a good write up on installing the spacer which is basically the same steps as intalling a new strut coil.

Hey I really like the look/stance of your truck and was wondering, since we both live in the same area, do you have any recommendations of a shop to do work on trucks? Sounds like you took your shop to a reputable place.

I did most of the work myself but if I have to have something done and don't have the time I typically use Byhalia Tire.

I have found them to be very honest and helpful and I absolutely will not let anyone else mount and balance a tire for me. Even though the shop does not look like much they have a robotic tire machine that will mount and index a tire without touching the rim. The only other place I have seen that machine was on the TV show Overhaulin with Chip Foose.

I have new quiklifts and RS9000XL shocks waiting to be installed. Just little to no time to put in ( would rather myself ). Looking forward to seeing how it transforms my '07!

ab46501, do you have any actual exterior photos of your truck with the quiklifts in?

Thanks! Now that you mention it I believe that you have told me that in the past...my bad for not remembering.

It looks like the Rancho's are pretty nice and a really good deal especially while the sale is going on.

I have 3k on my Quick lifts now has driven very nice so far. Truck sits nice and I love the way it looks not as happy about losing 1.5mpg on the highway. I am hoping when I get the money saved up for the tuner it will solve some of that,

Thanks for all the replies! To give some background on my truck, 70k completely stock FX4. Putting on the quicklift and rancho 9000's. I'm thinking about ball joints as well but may hold off for a bit, I did pick up a set of Moog tie rod ends. Also putting on a new set of 33's. I've taken a bunch of pre pictures including measuring the wheel well to the ground to see how much difference I see in my truck. I'll post that all once things are done!

Yeah I needed new shocks so it was a no brainer for me. The ride is adjustable but I have just left them on the setting from the factory which is in the middle. It feels about perfect to me.

My truck really doesn't look any different than before since I had the 2.5 spacer. I measured before and after the install with the old tires and with the spacer it was 39.5 to the middle of the fender well and with the quicklift it was 39.25. I am about an inch taller now with the new tires

Here is a link to my thread about the new tires. The quicklift is installed. I also have an AAL in the rear.

Looks good! So far that is my only fear, the rear end needing boosted up to match the 2.5" in front. Guess i'll find out when I install!

Little update, got passenger side on with really no issues. Then I jumped over to drivers side, dropped the old strut out and went to place the new one in.....not happening. Seems the top plate is "twisted" off where it needs to be by about 1/2". In other words, if I get all three top studs in the shock top mount, the bottom mount is twisted forward. Not good. Sent a nasty email to my4by where I bought them from. But I'm more upset I didn't give them a good look over before I started! Any ideas? At this point I have a leaning truck, going to request the overnight a brand new correct one to me while I send this one back. Don't know of any good shops around here that could help. If I had a spring compressor, could I unseat that top plate and twist it myself?
