Levelled '04 4x4. Best shocks for big rubber?

I am needing to replace the tires on my '04 4x4 and I want to make sure I don't just tear up a brand new set of tires...

The situation is the truck now is sitting at just under 90K miles, and it is dead obvious I have an alignment problem. I also have the orignal shocks on the truck.

My lovely bride has offered to get me new rubber / shocks for the truck (within reason of course) and since I am running 35s, not much is within reason you know?

Anyway, I am planning on replacing my existing rubber with a set of Maxxis Bighorn MTs from 4 Wheel Parts. A friend of mine has a set on his super duty, he puts a TON of miles on, and off road with them in the oil field, and no problems at all. He had BFG MTs previously and reports to be just as happy with these... They are however, HEAVY tires...

So what would be a good set of shocks for this rig? I am thinking Rancho RS5000 but that probably just proves how old I am....

You might also want to check out the RS9000's. They are adjustable and you could be able to dial in your ride just right.

What's required for the RS9000's? Don't they need some sort of controller?

You only need the controller if you don't want to have to get out of the cab to adjust them. Otherwise they have little dials on them that you can adjust by hand

I vote bilsteins if you offroad a lot. Firmer ride on road (in a good way), but off road is where they really excel for ride quality.

I just bought some Rancho RS9000 adjustable shocks & struts for my truck. I bought just the replacement struts not the Rancho Quicklift setup to compliment my 2.5" leveling kit. Heard running but good things about Rancho!
