Options/Opinions on lifting my 2011 FX2...

Whats up everyone, I'm the new proud owner of a 2011 FX2 screw! My previous truck was a '08 FX4 screw and I loved it, but I was able to get a deal that was too good to pass up! I am wanting to get my new FX2 to the same height or possibly a little higher than my old FX4 w/ leveling kit. I measured the difference in the front and back fenders and the back seems to be 2.25-2.5" higher. I'm not looking to do a full suspension lift because of price and overall height. My budget right now is undetermined, but I'm aiming for below $1k. I'm definitely a newbie to anything suspension! I've searched in here and these are the options I seem to have found:

1. Leveling spacer/kit like my '08 FX4. I wary about this because I would think the back would still need to be lifted a little?

2. Stock/OEM shocks from a 4x4 or FX4. Do I need the block for the rear as well? Would I need to throw on a leveling spacer with this option as well?

3. Those bilstein shocks that everyone raves about. I haven't researched that option much at all, but I see someone posting about them all the time.

4. I'm up to hear about anything else!

I think I'm going to run 33s like I previously had, but 34s did cross my mind. 18" or 20" wheels for sure.

Thanks for all your help guys! Here she is:

A 2.5 inch leveling kit will allow you to fit 33's. If you want a larger tire, also add a 3 inch Performance Accessories body lift.

if you want level or still a little rake, go w/ a 1.5" kit, or you can do a 2-2.5" kit and a stock 4x4 block and keep some rake

2. Stock/OEM shocks from a 4x4 or FX4. Do I need the block for the rear as well? Would I need to throw on a leveling spacer with this option as well?

depends on what size leveling kit you go with, you can use shocks from a 4x4 if you want but not necessary.

i'd stick to a 33x12.50 on stock wheels, if you go with aftermarket wheels you need wheels with similar to same specs as the oem's
check out the south section, theres a huge group of us headed to bryan beach in lake jackson june 11th if your interested.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm really just trying to achieve the height of a stock 4x4/FX4 with a leveling kit. What's the difference from the factory between a 4x2 and 4x4? is there a simple and cost-effective way for me to make FX2 look like a FX4 with factory parts?

I honestly don't know what the REAL difference is, besides front differential and CV axles. But I know for a fact anything you buy from the factory is going to cost twice as much as from the after market world. I would say bilsteins like fx4 for life said set at 2" and a 2" block or AAL in the rear. Then it should sit relatively the same as a 4x4.

~2" difference stock to stock. to acheive the same height or slightly taller you will want a 2" leveling kit and rear block (~= stock 4wd height) and 3" body lift (puts you slightly taller) than a leveled 4wd.

no easy way to make a 2wd look like a 4wd on the 04+ f150's. i would just do a 2.5" leveling kit and slightly larger rear block (or 2" and no rear block) and see how you like it then decide where to go from there. if you can't install a body lift or spacer by yourself i'd go ahead and start considering a suspension lift and expanding your budget.

a leveling kit and 33's will look good and put you high enough to notice a difference from stock, but it seems you are wanting more than that.

I will not be doing any of the work myself. If I read this right, these are my best 2 options:

1. Leveling kit WITH rear block that will add rake

2. Leveling kit WITHOUT rear block to make everything even or close to it

What size leveling kit should I buy? I believe I read that I should buy a .5" less than I want because of the way they fit on the truck? Something along those lines...I don't remember what I had on my old FX4.

I think the height it will give me will be satisfactory, at least for now. I'll be adding 305/55/20 Nitto Trail Grapplers, so that will help a bit too. Now I just have to figure what exactly what size Rockstars I am buying, 20x8.5 or 20x9 or 20x10!

Thanks for all the help!

Procomp makes a 3" level kit. I'd look into that, and maybe a Procomp add-a-leaf which will give you 2" to 2.5" in the back, so you should be pretty close to level. This will keep you well under your $1K budget depending on install cost.

Most everyone agrees that 3 inch leveling kits leave the ball joints at too severe of an angle to last.

^ i agree.

wandell, your now 06yz250f approved (refer to other thread about the leveling kit on a 7.5" fabtech lift if you are confused)

if you aren't going to be using a larger rear block i'd stick with a 2" kit. remember with a 2wd you can fit a 33 on stock wheels, so make sure the aftermarket wheels have as close to stock specs as possible.
