making an F150 handle...

anyone know the secret formula to this? i figure some sport springs in the front (not sure which ones to get and where to get 'em) and polyurethane bushings throughout...anyone setup one of these to carve corners? i don't wanna lower my truck for "style" as much as i do a lower center of gravity and better handling...if someone could point me in the direction of some parts i'd be grateful...

edit...i was looking around a little more and found Hotchkis makes leaf springs but they say they are only for Lightning/Std. cab trucks...so i take it these won't fit a Super Cab? i wouldn't think anything would be different in the rear...is it?

i would say full lighting suspension kit with beefed up sway bars and traction bars. but im definitely no suspension guru. one thing that definitely got my old truck handling better was lots of weight in the back, even though thats not very practical

Whatever happened to Men who bought Trucks for the purpose's that a Truck is made for ?
Nowdays it seems like every tom, **** and harry buys a truck and immediatly try's to convert it into something it wasn't built for.
It seems to me that if people want a vehicle that handled like a race car and shifted at the perfect RPM's for performance then those people should have bought a corvette or a porsche or a ferrari.
Me, I buy my trucks to work out of, to haul things in. I will admit that there are sure some sharp looking trucks out the with leveling kits and paint jobs etc. But my truck suits me just fine as it is. Factory ride, factory stance, factory tuning etc.
If I want a high performance race car, that's what I will go and buy.

Maybe mlamprey doesn't understand the purpose of forums. While on one hand forums are a place for people to get tech info about vehicles so they can do their own repair. another of the many reasons people join forums is so they can get advice on making their truck personalized.

Thats the beauty of it!

Some like low while some like high. Some like chrome while some like black.

Rather than ranting about how people use their trucks, try giving some advice to help!

That being said:

5SpeedSteed have a look at a few of these threads on the forums. Also try searching in the suspension section for lowering. You will find many people with reviews of products and I'm sure somebody else will chime in to help you out further.

That Lame A$$ excuse of a statement or explanation doesn't come close to answering my question. Duhhh !! Any moron can understand the desire to personalize their ride as well as the information one can derive from a forum. But there is a clear distinction between personalizing and trying to change a vehicle's design characaristics.

Wheels and tires also have a major impact on handling. Don't expect tires with big aspect ratios or too wide for the rim to carve corners.

why don't you try thinking outside of the box? ever heard of the Lightning? what about the Typhoon? those "trucks" were made to handle and run like sports cars. have you written a letter to the manufacturers chewing them out about "changing a vehicle's design characteristics"? it's my truck, i'll do what i please with it and i don't need any crap from someone on a message board. i asked a simple question and luckily, everyone on the board isn't as close-minded as yourself...so i got help (THANK YOU WINDSOR AND MROLGREN!!)

Model A Roadster Pickup -
Perhaps one of the earliest sport trucks was this special version of the Model A, the sport roadster model. This truck was produced from about 1928 to 1931, and featured a convertible top.
The truck tops out at just over 45 mph, and mechanical brakes are the only way to slow down, but the truck was most certainly a sport truck in its day.

I bought my truck to tow my Mustang to the track and haul my dirt bike. I have since bought a business which requires my to haul trees, brush, even pallets of jelly! I have even overloaded my towing the day I towed a forklift 100 miles. That was stupid!

Are these MANLY purposes for a truck? Can a woman buy a truck to be used as a truck?

Suspension is Saleen S331 with 20" rims, Baer 15" brakes, and currently have an engine at the machine shop being detailed before installing it with a supercharger.

A truck can handle AND still work hard.

I have 4x4, so the same might not apply, but I did buy the hotchkis sway bars front and rear, seems to be nice kit, but I put it on at the same time as the belltech drop kit, so I can't be attribute what % made things better. Putting 20"s and low profile tires on it did wonders, and the lowering kit & sway bars did too.

As for the "real truck doing real truck things", I totally agree with most of the other rebutting posters, first it's yours, so do what you want. I bought a 4x4 but still wanted the thing to be able to carve corners and exit ramps, because that's where I drive 99% of the time.
