Bilstein 5150 ???

Looking for some new shocks for the rear. Driving down the highway, over normal potholes and bumps, I can feel the rear getting sideways. Looking to stiffen it up, and give me a little less of a white knuckle ride.

Anyways, how do yall like em ? Good ride ? Running them with a 6" lift ?

Happen to have the part numbers ?

Thanks for any advice.

also, anyone have a good place to buy from ?

I have the shocks that came with the PComp lift. I agree that the rear end was a little soft, but I have since added a leaf and had them re-arched to only run a 3" block so it's not an issue any more. That really doesn't help you but I just ordered 5100's for the front that fit the 6"lift, so I can remove my spacer. I got a great deal from here
http://www.bilsteincanada.com/ They ship to the US. Their price was less than I could find on line and it was Canadian $ so you should be able to get about a 20% savings right now.

Thanks a lot shep. I have been thinkin about getting them re-arched too. May have to look into it more. Did it help a lot ?

Those 5100's you got for your front... thats for a 6" lift ? Does it still allow for the 2" extra lift ?? Or "adjustabe" lift ??

I think those are the ones that are 4-6" inch adjustable. meaning the most you can get is 6 inches and thats fully cranked, basically to replace the procomp spacer. I like the 5150s in mine. My procomp rear shocks were shot and it felt just like what you were saying. It made quite a differnce in the softness of the ride, cant feel near as many bumps as before.

I had the shop add a leaf and re-arch the springs. It made a world of differnce and for the $300 all in, it was worth it.

The 5100's for the front are adjustable, so if I didn't care about CV angles and ball joints I could get 8" of lift in the front. Basically I will re-use all the stock hardware and springs and remove the PComp spacer. Looking forward to it. If you call the 1-800 number on their website they will give you a part number. They were super helpfull.

Thanks !

How do you like the 5150s ? firm it up a little bit ?

My rear is bouncing all over the place right now. Can barely keep the nose pointed forward going down some of our "wonderful" highways. I am white knuckle driving at 45-50 MPH on some highways, as all kinds of trucks zip past, handling just fine.

Also, which ones did you go with ? The almost 12" of travel or the 14" of travel ?

Right on man. I will be looking into the re-arch or a whole new leaf spring pack. That was my first thought, but figured shocks might help out too. My buddy was loading some crap in the truck, he bent down to double check I actually had shocks back there. :o

I will definately call around and see what they say. Thanks again Shep, its appreciated.

Once I get them, March 2nd should be the day, I'll put them in and post a few pics. I have a friend with a spring compressor, just hope its up to the job. I've heard those springs are tough to compress.

I though they were 6 to 8" adjustable, I will let you guys know once they arive.

I got he ones for 12" of travel. yea they made a heck of a difference. My procomp shocks you could hear the fluid inside when you moved around, and they just fell all the way out when I took em off. Travel: 11.94"
Extended Length: 29.7"
Collapsed Length: 17.9"
Valving: 255/70
Shaft Diameter: 14mm
Reservoir Type: Fixed (Piggyback Style)
Bilstein Part #: BF5-A187-H1

And shep, I havent heard about that type of bilstein. you said it was made for 6 inch of lift, and it could be adjusted another two inches? And it got rid of the spacer? Or were you talking about a spacer on top of your procomp 6" spacer.

They are made specifcally for a 6" lift. You take the spacer out. Looks like its 4 to 6" not the 6to 8" I thought. When I ordered them the guy quoted me ones 6 to 8" so not too sure now. Either way I only want the 6" setting.

MT, i've talked to you a little before about my lift setup. I love my 6'' atlas springs in the rear. they stiffened up the rear a good bit, and increased payload a good amount. considering atlas springs is based in socal, a set shouldn't be too expensive for you. if you were to get a set of 7'' springs, you would have a stance level w/ the front w/o running any blocks in the back. it looks a hell of a lot cleaner, too.

they ride really well, too. the only time i get a real good clunk out of them is when i go 15mph over a speed bump, lol.

I bought the 5100 kit ( front level struts, rear shocks ) I installed the rear shocks myself, it stiffened it up much more. Doesn't wabble or look lower on one side at certain angles anymore.
