6"lift with stock 17" tires FINAL ANSWER????

Ive heard so much CRAP about if this will work or not and I really would like a final answer on this! Not only for just my benifit but for everyones!

I think we all want to know what will work and what wont! Ive herd everything from It will work with this manufaturer and but not with this one or someone says it wont and someone else says it will but its tight so lets get it out if you have (had) the set up or have seen it first hand from a reliable person then comment!

So If you have a 6" lift can you run your stock 17" rims? Is it Tight or does it fit well? Or does it work but with rubbing occasionally

And of course tell us what your running

Lets get it out in the open gentlemen!

 

what lift? like i said and many have said before the only lift that advertises the use of oem wheels is Rancho. some rims may fit but will rub the knuckles, unless spacers are used. the inside of the wheel lip will be destroyed and potentially knock the weights off. do a search. "Lets get it out in the open gentlemen!" like its a secret how many posts are you gonna make about the same topic?

 

It it will work with tires that dont have an aggressive sidewall like procomp xtreme a/t's. You will have about a half inch of space between the tire and knuckle...

 

Good question. Weigh-in guys on what you know first hand to be fact:
1. Brand of 6" lift:
2. Stock wheel size: (That worked or didn't work)
3. Tire size: (That worked or rubbed)
Make note whether the contact is with the knuckle/control arm, as that's a bigger issue than tire contact with fender or bumper at full turn, imho.

 

keep in mind that if you offroad, you will see more rubbing using the stock wheels than the guys who use them and just cruise down the street.

My 2007 had a 6" pro comp lift. My truck was an XLT so it had the 255/70/17 oem wheels and tires on it. After the lift, I put the stock tires on for a road trip. Worked ok until I tried to turn. The turning radius was GREATLY reduced because the tie rod end rubs the inside lip/edge of the rim. I would not want to try to drive around like this as a daily driver, because like I already mentioned, the turning radius is greatly reduced.

 

Ok, on the above image that ranorris2 posted. Its a fabtech 6" with the stock 17's and what looks like 35x12.5 Pro Comp extreme A/T's. What is the back spacing on the stock 17's as well as the stock 18's like on the FX4? If the 17's will work I am sure the 18's would and I have seen the stock 20's on a fabtech as well. I think this is a great thread, since some of us cant afford lift, wheels and tires all at the same time. And I dont want to buy a lift and have it stay in the closest until the other can be purchased.


Also I would like to know if a Pro Comp lift will allow the stock wheels to work.

i think putting stock rims on a lift kit that isn't recommended is just asking for trouble. what happen if you needed to make a race car-like maneuver on the interstate and you couldn't turn super sharp anymore? all i'm saying is why risk it? i would just wait, having a big truck on little tires just looks stupid and looks like you crapped out of money. unless you buy a rancho for that particular reason of running stock rims. just do the lift, rims, tires in 1 shot and be done with it. i'm with MTech about these stupid posts over and over and over, they might work but it's not a good idea. if it's just to make it home fine, but daily driver uh-uh.

 

Buy new wheels.

ALL factory wheels have a 5.5" backspace regardless of size
17x7.5 w 5.5"bs
18x7.5 w 5.5"bs
20x8 w 5.5"bs

if you want stock wheels and 6" of lift, get a rancho get a 2" spacer and theres 6" of lift with stock wheels
