oh my lord, ya'll are still bitchin about this?

i said i was gona TRY to do that like 6 nmonths ago.

i've since lifted it with just a 2.5 spacer, ran 305'60/18's and took them off within a month because the "lifted" look is retarded.

i now have a 2/4 drop on 22's.

i don't know why ya'll are still arguing, i was never arguing back.

this site is full of so mnay drama queens, how can you say im causing all the drama for simply making one statement that i was previously told would work? **** you trimble.

I don't understand why someone doesn't just post pics of this set up...4x4 coils plus leveling kit on a 2wd? Post them already. And if it DOES work, ping me cause I am listing my FX4 shocks with coils mounted in the Classifieds section by the end of the week.

When I put the 4x4 coil overs in, it was a pain to get everything bolted back up, so I don't see how any one could get a 2"+ spacer in there too. Nor do I know why....just buy a real lift

Don't mean to bump such and old thread, but I got a laugh from all the arguing and also had a question and some input. Old thread, but always a relevant topic.

First off, the perch and the lca are definitely different from 2wd to 4wd. If they weren't, my ball joint angles would be exactly flat like a stock 4x4 and not hanging.

Lastly, adding 4x4 coil overs lifts from front of a 2wd higher than a 4wd truck because of the different sized parts.

That said, what would get me at stock 4x4 hight? 2wd shock with a 1" spacer? And yes, I'm looking to go down just a tiny bit and also probably swap my rear 3" blocks for 2" or 2.5" adding 4x4 coilovers DEFINITELY LIFTS YOU HIGHER THAN A STOCK 4x4.

Going to do my coilovers again this spring and would love to see what a 1" spacer would do compared to my 4x4 coil overs. I'm not ruining any ball joints, I just want a stock 4x4 height. My truck now looks lifted and I'm gettkng sick of it. Want to eventually go with a sight my smaller tire too. Yeah, I know, I'm the opposite. Ha

Your truck is a 4.2 which is likely lighter some in the front than a 4.6 or 5.4 4WD truck so .... yeah ..... same springs would raise it higher than one with those other heavier engines. You could maybe clip 1/2 coil on a spare set of springs and try it as you will have spares by then. You can use stock type OEM or aftermarket 4WD coil over front shocks on your 2WD truck and it will sit at the 4WD height for a 4WD that has that same weight.

I have been on the ground looking really close at both 2WD and 4WD trucks of mine and your vintage and I have yet to find a difference in lower control arms. Even the steering knuckle starts out the same. I have not looked at a 4.2 equipped truck though but I can't imagine Ford using special LCAs on it?

What is different is entirely in the shock and the spring perches which in the case of 4WD put more shock below the spring. The shock that is there is shorter in body as well and the 4WD uses a "stalk" below the shock to pass the axle half shaft that a 2WD doesn't have. The lower shock mounts to the LCA about 2/3 the way out between the inner control arm bushings at frame and the lower ball joint so 1" at the shock mount is about 1-1/2" at the ball joint movement.

Look again at a Monroe replacement front coil over shock for a 2WD vs a 4WD truck like ours (mid Y2Ks F-150s).

2WD is #171362

4WD is #171361

In my case I lowered my FX4 front by shortening that stalk 1-5/16" which dropped my front right at 2". I removed the rear 2" blocks and used new shorter U-bolts. I have measured close and rear shocks will bottom only if I totally bottom the axle on the frame bump stops ..... and not likely in my use.
