Rear end of the truck is not level

Hey yall,
i put a djm 4,6 drop on about a year ago i figured the rear end would settle in. but it hasnt the passenger rear side is still higher than the driver side. Im guess its these crappy toxic shocks that ride really bad. Any idea to fix the probs.? Some epople told me its the gas tanks fualt cause its all on the driver side. If this is the case then my 4.6 gets a fuel cell.

First remove the shock if you think thats it. Shocks don't do anything other than stop spring oscillation. If they are holding the truck up, they are too long for the truck.

See if you can put the rear tires on some scales. If indeed one side is really heavier then other by any significant amount (300+lbs.), then think about shifting the weight somehow. More likely, the spring was made wrong with one having a different loading capacity than the other. Springs should have been made in pairs, and if it was not, this problem is the result.

I would contact the spring manufacturer and tell them you want a replacement set......

Is it only unlevel with a full tank of gas? Sounds stupid but when I would fill my 97's 30 gallon tank up you could see the truck lean to the left a little (as seen from the rear).

Lets say you have a 30 gallon tank. Full vs. empty thats 6.8 x 30 = 204lbs.

If a truck leans or sags over 200lbs. it is wrong. I weigh more than 250, and it doesn't change my f150's stance.

I would still contact the spring/kit manufacturer and ask for a replacement set. Tell them you waited if they give you any flack, to see if it would settle in, giving them the benifit of the doubt.

re-arc the left leaf.

I had the same problem and had the left rear leaf spring re-arced to regain the original shape (1" more arc). I'm sure it's because of the gas tank over time.

I have the same problem on a stock suspension. I too thought it was just settling from the gas tank over time. Being the cheapo that I am, I switched springs around. Made absolutley no change. My only other thought is that since I bought it used, it may have been in an accident and torqued the frame, but I haven't diagnosed it any further.
I have read that Ford finds 1/2 in. difference acceptable in a new truck.

03BLACK,

Was it unlevel before the drop? Or only after the drop? What components did you use in your 4/6 drop? Do you have a rear swaybar?

I had the same problem with my 98 XLT. I played around with the shackle setting to even it out but knowing both sides didn't match bugged me. I finally just took the one that was setting a little low off and had a spring shop to rearch it for me. Basically tell them how much higher or lower you want it and they adjust it in. Cost me $40 but then it was right on the money level.
