Post Fabtech Spindle Lift

Just wondering what everyones tips are on installing a spindle lift. I should be receiving my lift today. I know I need a pitman arm puller, which is like $15, anything else I should be prepared for? Any recommendations??

Tnx everyone!

I finished the lift last night. I started at around 7:30 P.M. and ended at 2:00 A.M. Wasn't too bad. Just wish I would've had a bigger hydraulic jack. Yep, it worked fine with my rims. Now I just have to fill in those wells with 285/75/16. Two questions I still have are.

1) I took it to get alligned this morning and they said that my camber was fine so I didn't need the Alignment Cam Kit that came with the lift. Is this true?

2) There was a small spacer/shim that was supposed to go on the lower ball joint underneath the clip that holds the ball joint. After putting it on, the clip wouldn't seat properly. I found no logical reason why It was needed. I didn't put it on :0 If anyone knows what I'm talking about and if they had the same problem please let me know. My curiosity is killing me.

I'll have pics up ASAP

im not sure about the shimms, but i have read that some people needed the cam and some do not. i might just be the shop preferance.i dont know that for a fact but it is as logical as i could come up with.

crazed: tnx for the reply, I didn't know some needed it and some didn't. I wonder if it has to do with the installation. Some people may throw the camber off while installing and some may not. ??? I'm almost sure the allignment cam kit is for camber adjustment when you take it to be alligned.

yours sounds better. what was the hardest part of the install, and what would you rate it 1-10 on the difficulty scale. cant wait to see those pics.

On a difficulty rating I would say it's about a 3-4. It wasn't very hard, but just make sure you have jackstand's that are high enough and that you have a BIG hydraulic jack. The jack that comes with the truck is a toy once you put the spindles on. Also, I would have had a really tough time if I hadn't picked up a pitman arm puller. YOU NEED IT....it helped sooo much.
To install the rear blocks I didn't even have to take off the tire. I just loosened the u-bolts and jacked up the truck by the leaf spring. Then it separated from the axle, popped in the blocks and re-do the new u-bolts. The front was a little trickier, but the hardest part I would say was getting the new spindle to sit in the ball joints properly, besides that it was a breeze. Keep in mind, I've worked on engines and electrical systems for a long time, but I have never touched suspension before. I also installed the new fabtech shocks, not hard, but time consuming.

Thats a good idea. I'll scan them and post them or something. The problem is that I have the instructions at work. I took them to work on friday just to double-check the installation.
I'll do it first thing Monday morning.

It looks great. The only prob. is that I still have the 255's that came with the truck. They look pretty small. I paid 650 for the entire kit. It includes the lift spindles, blocks for the rear, 4 fabtech performance shocks, the u-bolt kit, and allignment cams. I got it from truckperformance.com and it took less than two weeks to get to me. It rides the same as before if you don't change the shocks. I did, and I don't regret it for a sec. It rides soooo much better with the new shocks. What I want is 285/75/16 on 'em, but I'm waiting for my tires to wear a little more.
