I need help (Body lift)
Hey guys,
I am going to have a backyard mechanic put on a body lift on my 2000 F150 4x4 s/c
and I wanted to know if theres anything I should tell this guy before he starts?
He has never done this before, but he seems pretty confident that he can do it without
instructions or anything?
Is there anything I should tell him before he starts?
Another thing I really eally needed to know,
is how many inches can I lift my truck without running into problems?
My truck can be seen at:
http://www3.sympatico.ca/morley
Thanks in advance for all who reply
Cheers~!

They are pretty easy to install. The one bit of advice that I have is to try not to strip the front cab bushings. I did, and I had to buy new ones. What kit did you go with? I think that 3" is the maximum body lift available, because anything taller than that puts to much of a moment on the bolts. Good luck!

A backyard mechanic who's never done a lift before, but he's confident he doesn't need any instructions????
Have JMTruck send you the instructions. He was nice enough to send me the instructions when I was debating on doing the lift. They are a MUST have. The critical part of lift is when the body is being raised. You have to watch the fuel/cooling lines and electrical wiring. The Performance Accessories instructions has all the important info you will need.
Good luck

If you want to give him advice, tell him to read the instructions. JMTruck also e-mailed me those instructions and I studied them thoroughly before I even attempted the install. I am pretty mechanically inclined and I took my time and followed the instructions to the letter. It still took me 18 hours over 2 days. There are too many small details that you can overlook. I'm not saying your mechanic can't do the job, but at least have him get some directions to reference. Just my thoughts.

Are you going to install a custom made body lift?, because you didn't mentioned any brand. If that is the case and this is going to be his first body lift I will suggest you to prey a lot. For me safety is first and that's the reason I did mine. I purchase a professional kit from a recognize company.
I can send you the instructions by e-mail so you can get an idea on what's going on or what you must do if it is going to be custom made. They may be simple but not easy since they are very time consuming especially in our trucks. Too many details in order to get a great body lift with longevity.
Good luck with your project.

I havent decided on a brand yet..
Are there better ones and crappy ones out there? I thought that it was just rubber blocks? I beleive there is a kit on f150online website that you can order..
If someone can recommend a kit, that would be great.
I will order it right now.
JMTruck,
Thanks in advance for the instructions, that is very nice on your part
My address is: morley@sympatico.ca
Has anyone encountered problems with the front bumper not being the same height as the body of the truck? What can one do to prevent this?
Also, has anyone had to extend the steering column? It seems to me that once the body is
let's say 3" or 4" higher, your column will not be long enough to give? Or maybe it will slide through the firewall?
Another concern of mine is the transmission linkage, throttle linkage and electrical harnesses?
Seems to me that there is so much to doing this mod.
JMTruck, and everyone else who had replied,
Thank You.

Tweaker,
We all highly recommend the Performance Accessories kit. I'm not sure about the 2" lift, but with the 3" lift you get everything. It comes with the steering extension and front & rear bumper brackets, etc.
Check out www.performanceaccessories.com
You might want to get some lift lips (gap guards) to hide the ugly gap between the body and frame.
When I did mine about two months ago. I didn't have to mess with the transmission linkage or the little dial gauge underneath the steering column. It's not as hard as you think, it's just time consuming. Once you start you'll see it's pretty straight forward.

JMTruck, can you please send me the instructions too. The shop wants $600 installation fee for the performance 3" body lift, so I'm thinking of doing it myself.
Thank you.
